Shape the future of Platform Engineering at Auckland Council. Auckland Council is seeking an experienced Technical Lead to drive the evolution of our enterprise integration capability. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who combines deep engineering expertise with a passion for building scalable, secure and modern integration solutions.

 

 

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

Working within our Platform Engineering practice, you'll partner closely with architects, product teams and delivery squads to establish best practices, uplift engineering capability and ensure our integration platforms remain reliable, secure and fit for the future.

 

You'll be a principal engineer or technical lead who enjoys solving complex enterprise challenges and influencing technical direction through expertise and collaboration.

 

You could expect to work on:

 

  • Provide technical leadership for the MuleSoft platform
  • Design scalable API-led connectivity solutions
  • Establish integration standards and patterns
  • Support API governance and lifecycle management
  • Drive integration platform modernization initiatives
  • Partner with architecture teams and delivery squads
  • Champion DevOps engineering practices
  • Lead Infrastructure as Code implementation across Azure environments
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Drive platform automation initiatives
  • Improve platforms security, observability and resilience
  • Establish reusable cloud platform patterns
  • Guide engineering teams on DevOps best practices

 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

This role requires significant Platform Engineering experience. You will have experience in similar roles within large complex organisation

 

We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:

 

  • 10+ years' experience designing and delivering enterprise integration solutions.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience within large and complex environments.
  • Strong experience with MuleSoft and API-led connectivity architectures.
  • Expertise in REST APIs, asynchronous messaging and event-driven integration patterns.
  • Experience establishing integration standards, reusable frameworks and governance practices.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence technical decisions at all levels.
  • A passion for mentoring engineers and fostering engineering excellence.
  • Champion Infrastructure as Code, automation and modern DevOps practices.
  • Ideally, you'll also have experience with:
    • Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
    • Azure API Management.
    • SAP Integration Suite.
    • Confluent Kafka and event streaming platforms.
    • Kubernetes and container platforms.
    • Observability tooling such as Splunk or Azure Monitor.
