Day in the Life

The Technical Services Manager is responsible for leading all technical services, quality control, and materials performance across the Cement & Concrete business. This role ensures optimal mix design, material utilization, and product consistency while driving continuous improvement in quality, cost efficiency, sustainability, and operational performance.

 

Acting as a key technical leader, the incumbent partners closely with Operations, Production, and Sales to support plant performance, resolve complex technical challenges, and deliver customer-focused solutions. The role also leads quality investigations, supports business growth through technical expertise, and drives modernization of systems and processes.

 

In addition, the Technical Services Manager develops and coaches the Technical Services and QC team while upholding strong safety, quality, and compliance standards across all operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all technical services, quality control, and materials performance across the Cement & Concrete business, including mix design, specifications, admixture optimization, and product standardization.
  • Optimize material utilization, mix performance, and cost efficiency through KPI tracking, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, durability, consistency, and sustainability.
  • Provide technical leadership and troubleshooting across production, placement, and performance, ensuring alignment with industry standards, best practices, and evolving construction methods.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Production, Dispatch, and Sales to enhance plant performance, product consistency, customer satisfaction, and overall business results.
  • Lead technical investigations, root cause analysis, and resolution of customer complaints and quality issues, communicating effectively to maintain strong customer confidence and credibility.
  • Support sales efforts by identifying customer needs, delivering technical recommendations, and contributing to competitive, solutions-based offerings.
  • Drive transformation and modernization of technical systems, quality processes, reporting, and operational practices.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to the Technical Services and QC team (1–5 indirect reports), fostering accountability, high performance, and succession planning.
  • Uphold and enforce Miller safety standards, policies, and procedures while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and durability expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, materials engineering, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of hands-on, extensive experience in Cement & Ready-Mix Concrete, Aggregate, Construction Materials, Admixtures, or related technical operations.
  • Strong technical expertise in Cement & Concrete materials, mix designs, admixtures, testing standards, and product performance.
  • Experience leading technical troubleshooting and customer issue resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Operations and drive business-focused results.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of CSA standards, industry regulations, and quality management systems.
  • Experience with technical reporting, KPI management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Advanced communications skills.
  • Proven ability to maintain positive working relationships.
  • Willingness to travel between plant and project locations.
  • Valid G Class License.

Compensation Data

Targeting $110,000 to $120,000 base salary per annum
