Join our dynamic team at Auckland One Rail, the provider of passenger train services here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Our commitment to delivering efficient and reliable services to our valued customers drives us forward.

We are recruiting for a school of eight Train Managers to start on 14 September 2026. You will be working on board our trains, keeping everyone safe and informed during their journey.

About the Role

You will be the go-to person for commuters, visitors and other passengers as they travel from A to B - as you walk the length of the train and pass through each carriage during your journey, you will be responsible for making announcements, keeping people informed, answering any questions, de-escalating situations and operating the doors at each station. Please note this isn't a managerial role - you are responsible for the customers on board the train, their safety and comfort.

This is a permanent, full-time position and you must be able to work rostered shifts across the fortnight on a rotating basis, including weekends and public holidays.

Full paid training is provided and involves six weeks of classroom training at our Wiri depot (including first aid training) and six weeks of on-the-job training across the network. Uniform and PPE are also provided and no previous experience as a Train Manager is required.

This is a chance to work in one of the fastest growing industries in Auckland as our transport network continues to expand.

About You

We are looking for customer focused, well-presented, health and safety-minded people who are able to stay calm under pressure and can handle stressful situations. Communication is key in this role, and you will need a decent level of physical fitness as you will spend a lot of time on your feet and need to be physically able to pull yourself into the driver's cab. This role requires you to be based in New Zealand and have the legal right to work here.

You will also need:

• A full, clean, current N.Z. Driver Licence.

• Exceptional communication and fluency in English.

• The ability to complete a medical assessment with one of our doctors.

Next Steps

If you feel you have the drive, passion, and expertise to perform in this exciting opportunity, we would love to hear from you!

We receive hundreds of applications for these types of roles and will not be able to respond to everyone individually.

Due to the number of applications we typically receive and the safety critical nature of the role, our recruitment process involves multiple steps including an assessment, video interview, phone interview, and an in-person interview.

This is a safety critical role and requires all successful applicants to meet pre-employment checks which include a satisfactory criminal history check, drug & alcohol testing, ACC check, medical assessment and references.

The pre-employment medical assessment takes into consideration various medical conditions including sleep disorders, diabetes, colour blindness and heart conditions.

This advertisement may close at any time due to the volume of candidates, so please don't hesitate to apply.
