Downer’s Energy & Utilities business are seeking skilled Line Mechanics ready to step into a specialist pathway as Trainee Glove & Barrier (G&B) Line Mechanics across our Coromandel, Paeroa and Matamata depots. If you bring the right attitude, strong references and at least two years’ postqualification experience, we’ll fully support your development into this highdemand, safetycritical field.
You will need to live within our wider service areas (Tokoroa, Putaruru, Matamata, Morrinsville, Paeroa, Whitianga, Coromandel or Whangamatā) and participate in a rotating firstresponse fault roster. Cable Jointing training may also be available, and all G&B training includes a twoyear bond. This pathway offers strong longterm earning potential linked to roster participation and growing technical capability.
These are fulltime, permanent roles with 40 guaranteed hours, penal rates and allowances. You’ll work alongside experienced crews delivering overhead and underground maintenance, construction, installation and reactive fault response work. The role is varied, handson and essential to the reliability of local distribution networks.

Key skills and requirements:
EWRB Line Mechanic Registration or Distribution Line Mechanic qualification
Experience in overhead and/or underground distribution networks
Proven capability working safely around live systems and safety‑critical environments
Minimum two years’ post‑qualification experience
Strong commitment to Zero Harm and safe field practices
Clear communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
Comfortable working outdoors, at heights and in varied field conditions
Physically fit and confident in hands‑on environments
