Crooklands
£33,046 - £36,350 GBP yearly

Network Plus is hiring for a Trainee Traffic Management Operative to join its onsite team in Crooklands. This is a permanent, full-time role within the GTM department, with a clear training pathway as you progress. The company will provide the relevant training to upskill you through the various modules, so you can grow toward becoming a qualified Traffic Management Operative and, later, explore opportunities in operational management. If you enjoy working outdoors in a physical role and are looking to build a career in traffic management, this could be a good fit.

The position sits in a practical, hands-on environment where you’ll be paired with qualified operatives to help projects run smoothly while upholding high health and safety standards. It’s a role that suits steady, conscientious workers who don’t mind the outdoors and who want to start from a trainee level and move up within the business over time.

Over time, you’ll contribute to traffic management schemes across a range of projects, supporting the team to maintain efficient production on site while prioritising safety and compliance. The work will involve adapting to the needs of different schemes and environments, with the opportunity to develop into more senior roles as you gain experience.

The day-to-day you’ll own

In practice, you’ll learn and apply a wide set of traffic control methods, from simple give-and-take arrangements to more complex setups using Stop/Go boards, portable signals, convoy working, road closures, lane closures and diversions. You’ll pick up the safe working methods and the standard procedures that keep sites running smoothly and people protected.

As you grow, you’ll also gain experience with risk assessments and method statements for works involving traffic management, and you’ll learn to spot where procedures can be improved and how to report those findings up the line. Daily duties include helping to ensure the vehicle and equipment you work with are well cared for, clean, and ready for operation, which supports driver and passenger safety as well as site presentation. You’ll also contribute to presenting a positive company image on site through your attire and conduct, and you’ll sometimes assist members of the public by guiding them safely through site lines when required.

What you’ll need to bring

Here are the essential qualifications and training you’ll bring to the role.

  • Lantra 12d accreditation including TTMBC and M1/M2 modules
  • Lantra 12a/b accreditation
  • Knowledge of Chapter 8 and Safety at Street Works and Road Works
  • Ability to read and understand CAD drawings
  • Mechanical aptitude relevant to traffic light systems
  • A valid UK driving licence

Salary and what you’ll get

This is a full-time, onsite position in Crooklands with a annual salary in the range of £33,046 to £36,350.60. A full benefits package comes with the role, and overtime is available for those who want it. Network Plus emphasises equal opportunity in its recruitment and supports applications from ex-Armed Forces personnel, reservists, armed forces veterans, cadet instructors and military spouses/partners.

Tips to stand out for this trainee role

Lead with your training details on your resume, especially the Lantra 12d (TTMBC, M1/M2) and Lantra 12a/b qualifications, and note your ability to read CAD drawings up front.

Show concrete examples of how you’ve contributed in outdoor, physical roles and how you’ve worked with traffic management methods such as Stop/Go boards and portable signals to keep work moving safely.

Be prepared to discuss any risk assessments and method statements you’ve worked on that relate to traffic management and how you apply safe practices on site.

Ask about the progression path from Trainee to Operational Manager and what specific training modules or milestones GTM uses to unlock future roles. You can reference the stated progression in the role description and inquire about the steps you’d take to reach those opportunities.
