Lids Sports Group, the largest licensed sports retailer in North America, is hiring an Assistant Store Manager for a part‑time, on‑site role in Sandusky, Ohio. This position sits in a store that carries officially licensed headwear and team apparel, along with in‑store embroidery for custom gear. It’s a place for someone who likes leading a team, delivering standout customer service, and keeping store operations running smoothly in a sports‑fan environment.

As the Assistant Store Manager, you’ll step in as the on‑the‑floor leader when the Store Manager isn’t present, shaping schedules, coaching teammates, and upholding store standards. You’ll help deliver a great shopping experience, train associates on operations and product knowledge, and support the store in hitting sales goals while protecting assets. This role blends people leadership, daily operations, and customer care in a fast‑moving retail setting.

Steering the store day to day

You’ll supervise staff and help them connect daily tasks to broader company goals, keeping things fun and productive while ensuring policies, procedures, and brand standards are followed. When the manager isn’t around, you’ll handle scheduling, step through disciplinary actions as needed, and assist with recruiting and training so team members understand how their work supports the store and the brand. On the floor, you’ll lead the selling strategy, address customer feedback, and resolve escalations to keep guests satisfied, while promoting membership programs and live promotions when available. You’ll also oversee merchandising, cleanliness, and signage to maintain a polished, professional look across the shop, and you’ll manage cash handling and inventory activities with care to protect company assets.

Operational duties include executing store directives from headquarters, maintaining the point‑of‑sale system and in‑store customization tools, and keeping the store ready for inventory checks. You’ll open and close the store as procedures require, ensure the till is balanced, and support the team in keeping stock organized and accessible for customers.

Must‑have essentials

The role calls for a few core capabilities that drive success in this environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to grow sales while keeping loss to a minimum
  • Excellent people skills and clear, professional communication
  • Ability to work without direct supervision

Pay, benefits and practical details

This is a part‑time, on‑site opportunity in Sandusky, Ohio. The company offers a broad benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, a retirement plan, and benefits that are fully employer‑paid for many employees, such as short‑term and long‑term disability, life and AD&D insurance, and an Employee Assistance Program. You’ll also receive Paid Time Off, a strong employee discount, and opportunities for ongoing career development, including discounted secondary education courses. There are added perks like early wage access options and the potential for uncapped monthly bonuses.

Work eligibility is tied to legal authorization to work in the country of employment, and the employer does not offer visa sponsorship for this role. The position may require physical tasks typical of retail work, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, ladder use, and standing and walking for extended periods. You should be comfortable reading screens and operating a computer and a mobile Point‑of‑Sale system, with reasonable accommodations available if needed by contacting HR at [email protected].

Advice for applicants

When you craft your resume, lead with a line about your leadership in retail, specifically any time you served as the manager on duty, handled scheduling issues, or guided a team when the store leadership wasn’t present.

Show how you’ve driven sales while protecting assets by citing concrete results and examples of training or coaching teammates to follow company policies and procedures. Demonstrate your ability to work unsupervised by recounting times you took ownership of a shift and kept operations running smoothly.

Prepare for interviews with a solid story about resolving a customer issue on the floor, how you listened, acted, and left the customer feeling “made right”, and be ready to discuss how you train others on product knowledge and service standards. Bring a few examples of how you’ve implemented merchandising or pricing changes to align with promotions or seasonality.

End with a smart question that ties to the specifics of this job, such as how leadership development is supported at this location, or how the store integrates Lids membership programs and in‑store events into everyday customer interactions.
