Thunder Bay, CA

Lids Sports Group is looking for a 3rd Key to join the Thunder Bay store on a part-time, on-site basis. This role sits on the sales floor, helping customers find hats and licensed gear that fit their style while keeping the shop presentable and ready for a busy day. If you like sports, fashion, and helping fans express their team pride, you might be a great fit.

As the largest licensed sports retailer in North America, Lids operates more than 1,300 stores and is known for in-store embroidery and customization. The company blends sports culture and retail, from concept shops tied to leagues to collaborations with major brands. The Thunder Bay team is seeking a cap-savvy teammate who can bring energy, knowledge, and a customer‑first mindset to the floor.

The role lives onsite in a retail setting and is a good match for someone who enjoys interacting with fans, working as part of a small team, and taking pride in neat product presentation. You’ll be the go-to person for product questions, help maintain the displays, and support the store to deliver a standout Lids experience. You’ll report to the Store Manager.

A shift behind the cap counter

On a typical day, you’ll work toward driving revenue by giving customers personalized service and guiding them to items that reflect their individuality and team spirit, while keeping pace with the store’s goals. You’ll help maintain the floor according to current visual guidelines, ensuring signs are up, merchandise is organized, and the space looks inviting. You’ll also present yourself professionally in line with the dress code, because appearance matters as much as attitude.

There’s a hands-on side to the job too: you’ll assist with inventory tasks, process shipments, and help reset merchandise so shelves stay current and easy to shop. You’ll contribute to accurate counts and help keep the operation running smoothly by following LIDS Retail policies and procedures and handling other duties as needed. It’s a role that blends customer service with store operations, all in a fast-moving retail environment.

The essentials and the extras

What you’ll need to bring to the floor:

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills that help you connect with customers and teammates
  • Ability to work on-site in Canada and be legally eligible to work here without visa sponsorship
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and, at times, climb a ladder
  • Comfort using a computer and a mobile point-of-sale system
  • A professional appearance that aligns with the store dress code

Nice-to-haves that could help you hit the ground running:

  • Experience in retail or customer service beyond entry level
  • Familiarity with inventory tasks such as processing shipments and counting stock
  • Past experience maintaining store displays and signage in line with visual guidelines
  • Interest in licensed sports merchandise and in-store customization concepts

Pay, benefits and practical details

This is a part-time, on-site position in Thunder Bay. The company offers employee discounts and perks, opportunities for career development and professional training, and early wage access options to provide added financial flexibility. Accessibility accommodations are available if needed; applicants requiring assistance can email [email protected] to connect with a member of the Talent team.

In addition, the employment requirements specify that being legally authorized to work in Canada is a pre-condition of employment and that current or future employment-based visa sponsorship is not available for this role. The job includes the standard physical demands of retail work, such as standing and walking on shift and occasional heavy lifting, and it requires the ability to operate both a computer and a mobile POS system as part of daily duties.

A few tips to stand out for this job

Show relevance up front on your resume by highlighting any retail or customer-service roles, especially where you helped customers select products that matched their style or team loyalties. If you’ve done inventory work or helped with shipments, note the scope of those tasks and any improvements you helped achieve in efficiency or accuracy.

In interviews, be ready to share concrete examples of how you connected with customers and contributed to meeting store goals through excellent service. Talk about times you followed visual guidelines to keep displays tidy, and how you assisted with inventory or merchandising tasks to support smooth store operations.

Prepare for questions about handling daily duties like processing shipments, counting products, and adhering to store policies. A thoughtful question to ask: how does the team measure success for the 3rd Key role, and what opportunities exist for development within the store or broader network of Lids locations?

Lastly, consider asking about how the store leverages its in-store customization options, and whether there are moments to engage with fans around team gear or embroidery services. Showing genuine interest in the brand and in how the role supports the customer experience will resonate with the team.
