Automotive Diagnostician - ASE Certified
OpusEnvirotest, a global leader in vehicle emissions testing equipment and services and a proud subsidiary of Opus Inspection, is launching the Motorist Assistant Center and is seeking ASE-certified Master Diagnosticians who want to apply their diagnostics know-how in a new setting, helping motorists understand and resolve emissions-related concerns.
The job page lists Forest Hill, MD as the location, but the company says the role is based at the Baltimore, MD headquarters and includes travel to Envirotest stations throughout Maryland.
If you enjoy problem-solving, explaining technical concepts in clear terms, and delivering standout customer service, this could be a nice next step in your automotive career.
What you’ll do day to day
In this role you’ll diagnose and troubleshoot emission-related malfunctions, then relay findings to motorists and repair facilities to guide proper repairs. You’ll collect relevant vehicle information and document test results so others can act on repairs, including OBD tests, MIL status, diagnostic trouble codes, and readiness status. You’ll visually inspect vehicles for waiver repairs to confirm completion, and you’ll perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on instruments and equipment as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
The must-haves to join the team
Key requirements include the following:
- ASE certification with A6 (Electrical), A8 (Engine Performance), and L1 (Advanced Engine Performance).
- Either five years of full-time emissions repair experience, or two years of automotive education plus four years in emissions repair.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

The position is based at Envirotest's Baltimore, MD headquarters and requires travel to Envirotest stations throughout Maryland.
Advice for applicants
Lead your resume with your ASE credentials, make it clear you hold A6, A8 and L1 and tie those certifications directly to emission diagnostics and electrical work.
Show how you prove you’ve got the must-have skills by detailing hands-on work with digital and analog electronics, test equipment like digital multimeters, and a solid grasp of electromechanical systems and pneumatics; concrete examples help.
Be ready to discuss a real-world emissions issue you diagnosed, how you explained the problem and the solution to a motorist or repair facility, and what data you used (OBD readings, MILs, DTCs, and readiness states).
Ask a pointed question about how the Motorist Assistant Center collaborates with Envirotest stations across Maryland and how success is measured in this role, given the travel and cross-station coordination involved.
