Bytewize is hiring a Systems Engineer / Specialist Technician to deliver technical support to schools through the Technical Support to Schools Program (TSSP). The role is onsite in Broadmeadows, Victoria, Australia, with employment options including contract, casual, or permanent. This is a senior-level position intended for experienced professionals who enjoy supporting education environments and working with school leaders.

Bytewize has been serving Victorian clients since 2001 and is a long-standing TSSP panel member known for reliable ICT support across schools and private sector customers. The team values hands-on problem-solving, strong collaboration with education stakeholders, and practical training for education staff.

If you thrive when you’re solving complex ICT challenges, coordinating with school communities, and keeping technology in classrooms running smoothly, this could be a fit.

A day in the life on the TSSP

You’ll oversee and maintain ICT infrastructure across Department of Education schools, ensuring networks and servers stay healthy while supporting both staff and students in technology‑driven learning environments. You’ll work with school leadership to address needs and, when required, deliver ICT professional development to staff. The role blends hands-on administration with clear communication, aiming to keep enterprise systems stable across multiple sites.

What you’ll bring to the role

These are the must-have requirements. The position isn’t for beginners, and you’ll need a minimum of five years’ industry experience, with either prior TSSP exposure, substantial education-sector work, or equivalent senior-level corporate IT support.

  • Hyper-V virtualization administration for virtual environments
  • Administration of Windows and Linux-based servers
  • Cloud service administration for Google Workspace and Microsoft 365
  • Deployment and management of Mobile Device Management systems
  • Advanced enterprise networking experience with Cisco and HP switches
  • Cisco wireless technologies including controllers and access points
  • SOE and image deployment with strong troubleshooting skills
  • Experience supporting large fleets of desktops and notebooks
  • Experience planning, deploying, and managing 1:1 and BYOD programs
  • Strong technical documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with solid problem-solving and escalation abilities
  • Punctual, reliable, and well-organised, with excellent people and communication skills
  • A systematic approach to troubleshooting
  • Eligibility to work in Australia (citizen, PR, or permanent visa)
  • Current driver’s licence and a reliable motor vehicle
  • Willingness to undergo police and background checks

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with the TSSP is a plus
  • Proven track record delivering ICT outcomes in education settings
  • Ability to plan and run ICT training sessions for staff

Pay, benefits and practical details

The salary range is $80,000 – $110,000 per year (pro-rata), with top rates guaranteed based on skills and experience and regular performance-based salary reviews. Bytewize offers flexible employment options including contract, casual, or permanent arrangements, and positions can be part-time or full-time. The role is onsite in Broadmeadows, Victoria, with additional perks such as salary packaging options, potential company vehicle opportunities (role dependent), and ongoing training and professional development.

Advice for applicants

Lead with your most relevant experience, make the five-plus years and any TSSP or education-sector work easy to spot on the first page, so the reviewer sees you’re a serious fit from the start.

Back up the must-haves with concrete examples. Describe Hyper-V environments you’ve managed, the Windows and Linux servers you’ve administered, cloud configurations you’ve handled, and the scale of the fleets you supported, including outcomes or improvements you achieved.

Be ready to talk about school or large‑scale ICT projects, how you partnered with school leadership, and how you’ve delivered ICT training to staff. Expect questions about handling incidents across multiple sites and your approach to escalation.

Ask about how Bytewize plans to grow the TSSP footprint and whether you’ll have chances to lead staff training sessions or contribute to ICT strategy with education stakeholders.
