Bytewize Vacancy 2026-2774 for Specialist Technicians
BytewizeBytewize is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer / Specialist Technician to deliver technical support to schools through the Department of Education’s Technical Support to Schools Program (TSSP). The role is onsite in Officer, Victoria, Australia and is tailored for part-time engagement, with Bytewize offering flexibility across contract, casual or permanent arrangements. Bytewize has built its reputation since 2001 as a trusted ICT partner for Victorian schools and private-sector clients.
The company specializes in providing reliable ICT support through the TSSP and beyond, with a track record of delivering hands-on technical services to education communities. This is a senior-level opportunity for someone who brings substantial IT experience and enjoys working in education-related environments.
If you’re drawn to roles that combine hands-on infrastructure work with collaboration with educators and school leaders, this position could suit you well.
A day in the life in schools ICT
You’ll be responsible for maintaining and tuning ICT infrastructure across Department of Education sites, ensuring staff and students can rely on stable networks and enterprise environments. The role also involves administering school networks and server environments and delivering ICT support in large, technology-forward learning spaces. When needed, you’ll team up with school leadership to provide ICT professional development, helping teachers and administrators maximise the value of technology in teaching and learning.
What you bring to the role
To be considered, you’ll need at least five years of industry experience and one of these backgrounds: prior TSSP involvement, extensive experience in the education sector, or equivalent senior-level corporate IT support experience.
- At least five years of IT experience and clear evidence of one of the three required backgrounds (TSSP exposure, education ICT, or senior corporate IT support).
- Eligibility to work in Australia (citizen, permanent resident or permanent visa) with a current driver’s license and reliable vehicle; willing to undergo police and background checks.
- Strong hands-on skills across Hyper-V administration, Windows and Linux server management, cloud services (Google Workspace and Microsoft 365), and mobile device management deployment and administration.
- Advanced networking knowledge (Cisco and HP) including wireless technologies (controllers and access points) and experience with SOE and image deployment, plus practical troubleshooting for large desktops and notebooks, including 1:1 and BYOD planning.
- Excellent technical documentation abilities and a track record of working both independently and as part of a team, with solid problem-solving and escalation skills.
Remuneration and practical details
The role offers a salary range of AU$80,000 to AU$110,000 per year (pro-rata). Top rates are guaranteed based on skills and experience, with regular performance-based salary reviews. Bytewize provides flexible employment options including contract, casual, or permanent arrangements, and there are both part-time and full-time positions available. You’ll also have access to salary packaging options, potential company vehicle opportunities (role dependent), and ongoing training as part of professional development. The position is onsite in Officer, Victoria, with the usual expectations that come with ICT support in a school environment, and applicants should be prepared to meet background check requirements.
Physical location and travel considerations align with the school-based focus of the work, and eligibility to work in Australia, a valid driver’s license, and access to a reliable vehicle are important practical details to demonstrate in your application.
Tips for applicants
Lead your resume with a concise summary that confirms you have at least five years of IT experience and clearly state which of the three mandatory backgrounds you bring, TSSP experience, education-sector ICT, or senior corporate IT support. This makes it easy for the recruiter to see you meet the core requirement at a glance.
In your experience section, back up your claims with concrete examples of the essential technical skills this role demands, such as Hyper-V administration, Windows and Linux server management, cloud service administration, MDM deployment, enterprise networking, Cisco wireless technology, SOE/image deployment, and support for large fleets of devices. Include measurable outcomes where possible.
Be ready to discuss instances where you planned or delivered ICT training for staff and collaborated with school leadership to implement technology-enabled improvements. Have a clear story about how you’ve supported learning environments and how you’ve helped staff adopt new tools.
Prepare to address the practical criteria upfront: confirm your eligibility to work in Australia, your current driver’s license and reliable vehicle, and your willingness to undergo police and background checks. If you have documentation to support these items, have it ready to share during the process.
