Glen Waverley, AU
$80,000 - $110,000 AUD yearly

Bytewize, a well-established IT services partner with roots dating back to 2001, is looking for a Systems Engineer / Specialist Technician to support the Department of Education through the Technical Support to Schools Program (TSSP). The role is on-site in Glen Waverley, Victoria, and part-time, with Bytewize offering flexible employment options including contract, casual or permanent placements. This is a good fit for experienced tech professionals who enjoy delivering reliable ICT support in educational settings.

Bytewize has built a solid reputation for dependable ICT support across Victorian schools and private enterprise. They’ve been a long-standing panel member of the TSSP, delivering hands-on technical assistance and ongoing service through to private enterprise engagements.

To be considered, you’ll need at least five years of industry experience, with exposure to one of the following: prior involvement in the TSSP, substantial experience in the education sector, or an equivalent senior-level corporate IT support background.

Keeping the school ICT running smoothly

You’ll be responsible for managing and maintaining ICT infrastructure across Department of Education schools, supporting both staff and students, and administering complex enterprise environments. The day-to-day work involves overseeing school networks and server environments, and delivering ICT services in large, technology-enhanced learning spaces. You’ll also partner with school leadership teams and deliver ICT professional development when needed.

What you must have

  • A minimum of five years' IT experience, with direct exposure to the TSSP program, the education sector, or equivalent senior corporate IT support.
  • Hands-on expertise across Hyper-V virtualization, Windows and Linux server administration, cloud services (Google Workspace & Microsoft 365), and Mobile Device Management deployment and administration. You’ll also need strong experience with advanced enterprise networking (Cisco & HP) and Cisco wireless technologies, plus SOE and image deployment with in-depth troubleshooting. Experience supporting large fleets of desktops and notebooks, and planning/management of 1:1 and BYOD deployments, along with solid technical documentation skills.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia (citizen, PR, or permanent visa), plus a current driver’s licence and reliable motor vehicle. Willingness to undergo police and background checks.
  • Previous TSSP experience.
  • Demonstrated success in education-sector ICT.
  • Ability to plan and deliver ICT training sessions for staff.

Pay, benefits and practical details

The salary range for this role is $80,000 – $110,000 (pro-rata), with top rates based on your skills and experience and regular, performance-based reviews. Bytewize offers flexible employment options including contract, casual, or permanent arrangements, with both part-time and full-time positions available. You’ll have access to salary packaging options and potential company vehicle opportunities depending on the role, plus ongoing training and professional development to keep your skills sharp.

Tips to help you land the role

For your resume, lead with a concise summary that highlights at least five years in IT, and specifically call out any TSSP or education-sector work to show relevance to this posting.

When you describe your must-have skills, illustrate them with concrete examples: show Hyper-V setups you’ve managed, examples of Windows and Linux server administration, cloud workspace configurations you’ve deployed, and your experience with MDM, 1:1 programs, BYOD planning, and enterprise networking.',

In interview, expect to walk through real-world deployments in large learning environments. Be ready to discuss how you handled OS image deployments, how you documented changes, and how you collaborated with school leaders to deliver staff training.

Ask a targeted question about the role’s ICT training responsibilities, for instance: what level of formal staff development is expected, and how the program aligns with school calendars and ongoing professional development opportunities?
