Li Auto is seeking a Chassis By-Wire Systems Expert for a full-time, onsite role based in Munich, DE. The company operates in automotive manufacturing and is expanding its drive-by-wire capabilities. This position suits engineers who enjoy cross-disciplinary work and want to influence how advanced chassis systems behave in electric vehicles.

The role focuses on owning the overall architecture design and planning for the chassis by-wire system, setting technical roadmaps and development programs. You’ll collaborate with hardware and software engineers to shape the electrical and electronic backbone and to develop control strategies and algorithms that enable intelligent, coordinated chassis control. You’ll also perform safety analyses at the function level, contribute to the safety design of each function, and drive data collection and analysis during testing to quickly spot issues and push for improvements. In addition, you’ll participate in fault diagnosis and the maintenance of an FMEA framework, and help define fault responses. You’ll engage in conversations about chassis by-wire regulations and technical standards in Europe and globally, translating those standards into system and safety design requirements and into EMB software and hardware design, representing Li Auto in regulatory discussions with practical input.

Shaping the chassis by-wire backbone

In this role you’ll steer the architecture design and the plan for the chassis by-wire system, turning roadmaps into concrete development work. You’ll work closely with hardware and software teams to craft the electrical and electronic architecture and to develop control strategies that realize precise, intelligent chassis control. You’ll carry out safety analyses tied to the functional architecture, define safety requirements at the function level, and contribute to safety design across each function. During testing, you’ll collect and analyse data, promptly identify problems, and drive improvements across the system. You’ll also take part in fault diagnosis and set up FMEA processes with clear fault response measures, while contributing to regulatory or standards discussions and translating those discussions into technical requirements for EMB. You may represent Li Auto in regulatory conversations to offer informed perspectives.

What this role requires

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience developing electric chassis systems, including mass-production programs and test verification of redundancy strategies and interaction design for EHB or EMB products
  • At least 5 years in a system leader or key engineer role within a Tier 1 supplier, working on electronic chassis systems and redundant chassis architectures to support L3+ autonomous driving
  • Strong grasp of the wire-control chassis architecture, including sub-systems such as steering, braking and driving, and how these parts work together
  • Solid understanding of the basic ideas behind vehicle motion and kinematics, with the ability to model and analyse a drive-by-wire chassis
  • Knowledge of automotive electronics and electrical architecture, including CAN, LIN, FlexRay, and the sensors and actuators used in these systems
  • Advanced development skills in electronic chassis systems and hands-on expertise with modeling and simulation tools like MATLAB/Simulink and AMESim
  • Experience using system requirements tools, such as IBM DNG
  • Fluent English, both spoken and written
  • Excellent collaboration and problem-solving abilities
  • Self-motivated with a fast-learning mindset and a proactive, creative approach
  • Strong time-management skills and the capacity to work under pressure
  • Confident, results-driven work style

Advice for applicants

Lead with your most relevant experience up front. Highlight the 10+ years you’ve spent on electric chassis development, especially any mass-production programs and testing that verified redundancy and the interaction design for EHB or EMB products, and call out any leadership roles in these projects at a Tier 1 supplier.

Show concrete proof of the must-have skills. Describe specific projects where you designed or led the wire-control chassis architecture, including sub-systems like steering, braking and driving, and explain how those parts interacted. Include details about your modeling and simulation work with MATLAB/Simulink or AMESim, and your practical use of CAN, LIN and FlexRay, plus hands-on work with relevant sensors and actuators and with IBM DNG.

Be ready to talk about safety analyses and regulatory work. Prepare examples of safety analyses you’ve conducted, how you defined function-level safety requirements, and how you translated European and global standards into concrete system designs. Share how you tested and iterated on a drive-by-wire chassis and how you addressed issues uncovered during testing.

Think of a good, targeted question to ask. For example, ask about which European and global standards currently guide Li Auto’s chassis by-wire work, how the team translates those standards into EMB hardware and software design, and who you’d collaborate with to ensure safety and compliance across functions.
