Li Auto is looking for a Powertrain System and Calibration Expert to join its Munich team. This is a full-time, on-site role in Germany, aimed at shaping electric powertrain architectures from concept through prototype validation toward mass production. The company is building a European presence focused on advanced electrified propulsion and high‑voltage systems, and this position suits engineers who enjoy cross‑border collaboration and hands‑on engineering in a fast-paced automotive environment.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a technically diverse setting, working with peers in Europe and likely external R&D partners to push new technologies forward. If you’re drawn to designing differentiated technical approaches based on industry trends and you want to contribute to landing new powertrain solutions in production, this role could be a strong match.

You’ll likely enjoy this job if you’ve got a background in electric powertrain development for European OEMs and bring both software/calibration know-how and a practical mindset for turning concepts into scalable products.

Shaping the high‑voltage powertrain in Munich

The day-to-day involves taking ownership of the overall conceptual design and planning for innovative electric powertrain systems, and proposing distinctive technical routes that align with industry trends. You’ll steer the high‑voltage powernet architecture for vehicles, optimize how components are laid out and integrated, and define interfaces to ensure cohesive, production-ready solutions. Feasibility studies, prototype design, and test verification will be your stepping stones to bringing new technologies into real-world use, with the goal of smooth landings into production.

In the realm of simulation and optimization, you’ll model the E‑drive system across full operating conditions, analyzing core metrics like power, efficiency and overall energy economy. Your work will drive multi‑dimensional improvements at both system and component levels, and you’ll build and refine the powertrain simulation model, raising the fidelity of simulation processes and standards to ensure reliable results.

Algorithm calibration is another pillar of the role. You’ll design, develop and refine core motor-control algorithms, covering torque and speed control as well as efficiency optimization. You’ll define calibration requirements, decompose functions, and verify parameters to ensure the control outcomes meet required standards. On the technology frontier, you’ll explore next‑generation approaches in power electronics, new e‑machines and innovative gearboxes, while keeping a keen eye on industry trends and competitor activity. You’ll also connect with local European research institutions, universities and partners to build a technology‑sharing network and promote joint R&D opportunities.

What Li Auto needs from you

  • You have hands-on experience developing electric powertrain products for a European OEM and bringing them to mass production, with exposure to e‑drive software and calibration.
  • You hold a master’s degree or higher in Power Electronics, Automotive Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; a PhD or five+ years at a leading OEM or Tier‑1/2 supplier is preferred.
  • You’ve demonstrated success in e‑drive system development with a production‑readiness track record.
  • You bring a solid grasp of e‑drive fundamentals, the architecture of drive systems, and how the various modules interact.
  • You understand the functions and control strategies that govern e‑drive performance, and you’re familiar with functional safety concepts as they apply to powertrains.
  • You’re comfortable programming in Matlab or Python, you communicate clearly in English, and you work well in a multicultural team with a strong sense of responsibility.

Compensation and practical details

The role is described as a full-time, on-site position based in Munich, Germany. No salary figures, benefits, or relocation details are provided in the listing, so please plan to discuss these specifics during the interview process.

Tips for applicants

Put your European OEM e‑drive experience up front. In your resume, lead with the programs where you developed electric powertrain products and moved them toward mass production, and mention any calibrations you handled on the software side.

Demonstrate the core technical wins you’ve delivered. When you describe your background, spotlight hands-on work on motor control algorithms, especially torque and speed control, plus any efficiency improvements you achieved, and tie those outcomes to measurable results if you can.

Be ready to discuss your simulation and validation approach. Explain how you built and iterated the powertrain model, what standards you followed, and how your improvements translated into more accurate predictions and reliable performance in testing or production.

Prepare a concrete question about the Europe partnership plan. Ask how the team collaborates with local research institutions, universities and partners, and what joint R&D projects they expect to pursue in power electronics, e‑machines and gearboxes in the near term.
