About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Project Accountant to oversee the financial administration of active projects from start to finish. This position partners with project managers and operations teams to maintain accurate job costs, process billings, manage subcontractor documentation, and support project financial performance.

The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process project invoices and monitor payment activity
  • Review project budgets against actual job costs and perform ongoing cost analysis
  • Prepare subcontract agreements and maintain required compliance documentation
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance records and ensure documentation remains current
  • Assist with monthly and year-end accounting close activities
  • Review project contract requirements related to insurance and bonding
  • Process weekly subcontractor payment requests
  • Prepare certified payroll reporting for prevailing wage projects
  • Create and maintain owner and subcontractor change orders
  • Generate monthly customer billings and coordinate with project teams
  • Track accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances
  • Participate in monthly project financial reviews with internal stakeholders
  • Produce job cost reports, variance analysis, and other financial summaries
  • Establish and maintain phase codes and project cost tracking structures
  • Enter and manage invoices within accounting software, including Viewpoint/Vista
  • Communicate with vendors and subcontractors regarding billing and payment questions
  • Maintain compliance with internal accounting procedures and company policie

Qualifications

  • Previous accounting experience is required
  • Experience in construction accounting or project accounting is strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of job costing, project billing, accounts receivable, and financial reporting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience using Viewpoint/Vista or similar construction accounting software is preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project and operations teams
