The Opportunity:

We are seeking a skilled Contracts Officer to join the Electromagnetic Warfare Intelligence Systems (EWIS) Joint & Air SPO.

EWIS‑J&A is responsible for the acquisition and through‑life support of Joint and Air Electromagnetic Warfare capabilities used by the Australian Defence Force. The team also delivers countermeasures development, validation services, and capability support on behalf of the Intelligence and Security Group and the ADF.

As a Contracts Officer, you will support sustainment activities across the SPO, providing oversight of commercial aspects of contracts and agreements. You will help ensure contract compliance, support internal business engagement and apply your specialised knowledge to solve complex issues under general Commonwealth direction. You will contribute to evaluating and managing commercial risks, ensuring procurement, finance, insurance, compliance, estimating, and control activities align with Commonwealth policy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of tender documentation and conduct evaluation activities in accordance with ASDEFCON requirements.
  • Assist with commercial and procurement functions within sustainment areas.
  • Support planning, organising and preparing procurement documentation, ensuring internal approval processes are met.
  • Assist with subcontractor due diligence, engagement and ongoing management.
  • Support commercial risk, opportunity and issues management.
  • Manage contractual, procurement and financial activities.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Participate in training, courses and workshops as required.
  • Undertake additional project tasks as delegated by the Project Director, Deputy Project Director or Project Manager

  

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

  • Strong background in contract management, project/program support and reporting.
  • Familiarity with Commonwealth and Defence procurement frameworks.
  • Sound understanding of ASDEFCON suite contract structures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously, including in remote‑work conditions, while meeting demanding milestones.
  • Experience with export controls and ITAR (desirable).
  • Experience in financial planning, pricing, billing procedures and contract administration.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders including Defence personnel and below‑the‑line contractors.
  • Ability to manage work tasks that align with strategic project objectives and deliver clear outcomes.

 

Due to the nature of Defence work, applicants must be Australian citizens and hold an active NV1 security clearance.
