Full-time
On-site
Montréal, CA

Aversan is a Montreal‑based engineering and electronics manufacturing company that delivers safety‑critical electronics and software for aerospace, defence and space programs. They’re looking for a Senior Embedded Software Architect to join the team onsite in Montreal on a full‑time basis. This is a great fit for someone with hands‑on satellite payload software experience and a knack for guiding multi‑discipline teams.

The person in this role will shape the architecture and implementation of complex embedded software for space applications, including satellite payloads, while providing technical leadership to a multidisciplinary group. You’ll work closely with Systems, Digital and RF engineers to ensure the software sits cleanly inside the broader system, and you’ll drive continuous improvement across development practices and product quality. The environment values disciplined engineering and clear communications, so you’ll translate system needs into solid software solutions and help the team stay aligned with customers’ goals.

Location is Montreal, Quebec with an on‑site work arrangement. The role suits someone who enjoys hands‑on technical leadership and wants to contribute to missions in aerospace, defence or space, while mentoring teammates and shaping how the team designs, tests and delivers flight software.

Shaping embedded software for space missions

You’ll take ownership of the software architecture for space‑grade applications, guiding design choices and coordinating with peers across hardware, digital logic and radio modules to guarantee seamless integration. The job includes steering the development of embedded flight software, including low‑level code and boot sequences for processors, and overseeing the integration and testing of flight software in both lab and flight units. You’ll also drive the formal software lifecycle work, architectural designs, requirements, implementation notes and test documentation, and push for automation and reliable CI/CD practices to improve efficiency and predictability.

Beyond coding, you’ll set technical direction, mentor engineers, and help refine software requirements as system needs evolve. You’ll interact with customers to understand technical expectations, support proposals, and help define software solutions that meet mission goals, all while promoting disciplined version control and collaboration across the team.

Must‑have tech and leadership traits

Here's what the team needs from you. The list reflects the blend of engineering depth and leadership the role demands.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 15 years spent developing embedded software, with a track record in complex systems
  • Strong command of C and C++14, applied in embedded environments
  • Extensive work with real‑time operating systems
  • Solid background in networking and communications protocols
  • Experience writing boot code for embedded CPUs
  • Experience working with sophisticated system‑on‑chip designs
  • Proven technical leadership in an Agile setting
  • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD practices
  • Proficiency with Git or similar version control systems
  • Excellent communication in English or French and strong collaboration skills
  • Proven ability to mentor teammates, give constructive feedback, and drive technical and process improvements
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a disciplined, results‑oriented approach

Tips to stand out for this space software architect role

Lead your resume with the satellite payload work and the architecture you built, then highlight your leadership in Agile teams guiding embedded software projects.

Showcase your must‑have skills by pointing to concrete outcomes: long‑term embedded software projects, RTOS stability you improved, boot code you wrote, and experiences with SoCs and wired/wireless protocols. Include real numbers if you can, uptime improvements, delivery cycle reductions, or defect rate changes.

Be ready to describe how you’ve handled flight software integration and testing, including lab and flight‑unit environments, and how you maintained formal documentation across the lifecycle.

Ask a precise question about current flight software initiatives, how the team implements CI/CD in aerospace contexts, or how software lifecycle documentation is maintained across cross‑functional groups.
