United Wholesale Mortgage, a prominent mortgage lender, is looking to hire for an entry-level Mortgage Call Center role in Pontiac, Michigan. The position is full-time and onsite, placed within the company's Customer Care Servicing team. It’s a hands-on, phone-focused role that’s well suited for someone who enjoys talking to people and delivering solid service every day. The employer notes that this role does not qualify for sponsor-based work authorization, so applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

As a Customer Care Servicing Specialist, you’ll act as the main point of contact for clients, keeping relationships strong and guiding clients through their servicing needs. The work blends routine client interactions with problem solving and collaboration, all aimed at helping homeowners maintain a smooth mortgage experience. If you’re energized by conversations on the phone and by helping clients navigate their options, this could be a fit.

The role is onsite in Pontiac and requires full-time attendance, with responsibilities that revolve around consistent client contact and teamwork within the Servicing group. It’s a good match for someone who thrives in a client-facing environment and is eager to learn different areas of servicing through cross-training.

A day on the line at the call center

On a typical day, you’ll field incoming calls, reach out to clients when needed, and respond to emails to keep communications clear and timely. You’ll also work with various reports to track activity and performance, and you’ll coordinate with our sub-servicer to ensure servicing tasks stay on track. Over time, you’ll gain exposure to different parts of the Servicing team through cross-training, broadening your understanding of how the mortgage process fits together and how client needs are met.

What you’ll need to bring to the table

Must Have Qualifications: you’ll want to prove you’ve got relevant experience and the right mindset. A year or more in customer service handling a high volume of calls, or a year in the mortgage industry, counts. You should bring strong communication skills, sharp analytical abilities, and solid Excel know-how, think VLOOKUP functions, formulas, and PivotTables, along with proficiency in the broader MS Office suite. The role calls for a self-starter with a strong work ethic, comfortable working in a fast-moving environment, and the ability to multitask and adapt while maintaining a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and onsite, full-time attendance is a must.

  • At least 1+ year of customer service handling many calls, or 1+ year in the mortgage industry, reworded as relevant experience
  • Clear and effective communication paired with strong client-service focus
  • Solid analytical mindset to interpret data and reports
  • Proficiency in Excel, including key functions and data tools
  • Competence with MS Office tools beyond Excel
  • Self-motivation and a strong work ethic
  • Comfort with fast-moving workflows and prioritizing tasks
  • Ability to juggle several tasks without losing accuracy
  • Positive, eager-to-learn attitude
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Onsite, full-time work commitment

Nice to Have Qualifications: extra skills that could help you stand out include experience in mortgage servicing and bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, which can improve communication with a broader client base.

  • Experience in mortgage servicing for another year or more
  • Bilingual ability in English and Spanish

Advice for applicants

Lead your resume with the exact experiences that align with this role: emphasize any time you handled high volumes of calls in a customer-service setting or related mortgage exposure, and highlight your Excel prowess with concrete examples of vlookups, formulas, and PivotTables.

Show how you prove the must-have skills: include a brief example of a project where you used data to improve a process, or a situation where multitasking in a fast-moving environment kept client expectations met. Tie your communication strengths to outcomes, like quicker response times or higher customer satisfaction scores.

Prepare for interviews by outlining stories about inbound and outbound calling, email management, and collaborating with third-party servicers. Be ready to discuss times you cross-trained or learned new parts of a process on the fly, since cross-training is highlighted as a path to broader experience within Servicing.

Ask a thoughtful question that ties back to the role’s growth path: for instance, inquire about what cross-training opportunities look like within the Servicing team and how performance in this role is measured day-to-day and across the first year.
