Environmental and Nature Conservation Specialist (f/m/d)
Elia GroupElia Group’s 50Hertz Transmission is looking for an Environmental and Nature Conservation Specialist to join the onsite team in Germany. The role is hosted across two sites: Chemnitz-Röhrsdorf, Haardt 33, 09247 Chemnitz, and Lübbenau, Zentrales Umspannwerk 6, 03222 Lübbenau. It’s a full-time, fixed-term position for two years, at 37 hours per week, with the entry date set for the next possible date and the job reference 11604. If you’re passionate about protecting ecosystems while keeping critical energy infrastructure running safely, you’ll likely feel at home here.
The role blends environmental stewardship with practical delivery, requiring you to operate at the regional level and influence how environmental requirements sit alongside the operation of the high‑voltage network. You’ll work with colleagues, authorities and service providers to ensure compliance and to drive improvements that protect nature and water systems while supporting reliable grid performance.
50Hertz presents a collaborative environment with thorough onboarding, targeted training opportunities and access to professional services on health, personal care, legal matters and finances to support you in the role. If you value a position that combines technical environmental work with hands-on responsibility in a critical energy network, this opportunity could be a strong match.
Steady stewardship across the regional network
In this regional leadership post you’ll take responsibility for environmental and water protection, waste and hazardous goods management within your network area, ensuring all activities meet legal, regulatory and internal standards. You’ll translate complex requirements into actionable guidance and help keep operations compliant and safe.
You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to the head of the regional center on environmental topics, drafting operating instructions and conducting staff trainings to raise awareness and capability across the organization. You’ll also help sharpen audit and control regimes, guide their implementation and produce the necessary reports and documentation that demonstrate progress and compliance.
A key part of the job is collaborating closely with authorities, institutions and the company’s environmental circle as the regional point of contact. You’ll plan, approve, monitor and document disposal and recycling processes, and you’ll manage the related budget and the coordination of service providers. You’ll also oversee compensation and replacement measures and the management of vegetation work along the high‑voltage routes, ensuring activities are well coordinated and documented.
What you’ll need to bring
- A completed university degree in environmental engineering, nature conservation or a closely related field
- Proven professional experience in a similar role or scope
- Validated qualifications as a waste and water protection officer and as a dangerous goods officer
- Strong command of MS Office and familiarity with AI-assisted tools used in a professional setting
- A valid Class B driving license
- Excellent German language skills at C1 level
The nice-to-haves
- Electrotechnical knowledge or training in a related field
- Good English skills at B2 level
- Experience with SAP or other relevant databases, or a willingness to learn these systems
Pay, benefits and practical details
The position is on-site with two possible workplaces in Chemnitz and Lübbenau and follows a 37-hour workweek. It is a fixed-term contract for two years. The start date is the next possible date. In this role you’ll enjoy flexible working hours supported by a long-term time account, with the number of flex days not limited and no mandatory core hours. Partial remote work is possible, depending on the needs of the role.
Benefits include thorough onboarding and tailored training, 30 days of annual leave, a collegial working environment and access to professional advisory services on health, care, legal matters and finances. The company is part of the European Elia Group, and you’ll operate within a structure that values practical environmental work alongside responsible budgeting and collaboration with external partners.
Two workplaces provide scope for regional focus while keeping your responsibilities clearly aligned with the company’s environmental and safety commitments.
Advice for applicants
Lead with your degree and your two core certifications at the top of your resume so the hiring team sees you meet the must-haves right away. If you already hold Abfall- und Gewässerschutzbeauftragter and Gefahrgutbeauftragter credentials, mention the exact certifications and the issuing body, plus the year obtained.
Show how you’ve proven the must-have skills in concrete terms. Cite examples where you advised leadership on environmental topics, drafted operating instructions, trained staff, advanced audit regimes, and coordinated with authorities or internal environmental circles. Attach or describe documents or summaries that demonstrate your impact in those areas.
Prepare for interviews by describing your experience with the regional center’s environmental duties and your approach to planning, permitting and monitoring waste disposal and refurbishment activities. Be ready to discuss how you’ve managed budget planning for environmental projects and how you’ve coordinated service providers to deliver results along HV routes.
Ask a pointed question about practical outcomes: how the role influences the ongoing planning and execution of compensatory and replacement measures and Schneisenmanagement along high‑voltage lines, and how performance in environmental audits is measured and used to drive continuous improvement.
