Canadian Natural Resources is seeking an Environmental Reclamation Student for an eight‑month term starting May 2027, based in Fort McMurray at the Horizon or Albian Oil Sands sites, with an eight days on, six days off schedule and a 10‑hour day, safety sensitive. The role is hands on fieldwork to support reclamation operations, collect soil, vegetation, water and wildlife data, conduct surveys and weed monitoring, and update GIS data with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123. Ideal candidates are 2nd to 4th year undergrads or Master’s students in Land Reclamation, Forestry, Environmental or related fields, with a valid Class 5 license and physical readiness; assets include prior reclamation experience, ATV or watercraft experience, and ArcGIS collectors. As the Environmental Reclamation Student, you will actively monitor reclamation operations and conduct field surveys, utilizing cutting-edge electronic data collection methods. Moreover, you will collaborate with the larger Environment team, supporting the monitoring of wildlife, surface and ground water, and updating information in our Geographic Information System (GIS) platforms. This position primarily focuses on fieldwork, providing you with valuable hands-on experience.

- Shift schedule: 8 days on, 6 days off, 10 hours/day (Thursday – Thursday)
- Term length: 8 months

Key Accountabilities:
- Collect soil, vegetation, water, and wildlife data using field and electronic data collection methods
- Support reclamation activities, including monitoring soil salvage and placement, revegetation, and site conditions
- Conduct field surveys (e.g., disturbance mapping, pre-salvage assessments, wetland monitoring) and interpret results
- Conduct environmental inspections
- Assist with weed monitoring and control to support site reclamation efforts
- Compile and organize environmental data for regulatory reporting, applications, and internal tracking
- Use tools such as ArcGIS (Field Maps, Survey123) to collect, manage, and analyze field data while maintaining a strong focus on safety
What You Bring to The Role:
- Currently enrolled in your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year undergraduate or master’s program in Land Reclamation, Forestry, Environmental, Biology, or Natural Science
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean drivers abstract
- Physically able to handle the rigors of outdoor field work with long days
- Previous experience in completing reclamation field work is considered an asset
- Previous ATV and/or watercraft experience is considered an asset
- Experience using ArcGIS collectors is considered an asset
- Previous reclamation or oil sands experience is considered an asset
