Field Engineer - Electrical/FLS
BechtelBechtel, a global engineering and construction powerhouse, is seeking a Field Engineer focused on Electrical and Fire Life Safety to join its Perth operations. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in East Perth, blending on-site project work with office days. It’s a solid fit for senior field engineers who enjoy cross-discipline collaboration and onsite accountability within integrated teams serving Western Australia’s capital works programmes.
Bechtel operates across Western Australia to support large, multi-discipline projects in aviation, defence and energy infrastructure. The team works closely with customers to deliver outcomes that matter, and this role sits within those efforts to build capability for future opportunities in the region. If you value practical impact and steady collaboration with clients and contractors, you’ll likely feel at home here.
You’ll report to the Construction Manager and help ensure that contractor activities align with project specifications and requirements. The role calls for hands-on coordination with multiple disciplines and technical representatives, reviewing contractor submittals and changes, and assembling data for progress reports and expenditure forecasts. You’ll also support onsite project logistics and internal stakeholders to keep activities moving smoothly while maintaining a sharp focus on safety and quality.
On the ground in Perth: field engineering life
Day-to-day work revolves around planning with discipline teams and management to protect program delivery priorities. You’ll help ensure the contractor’s work stays on schedule, budget and scope by scrutinising schedules, costs, reports and changes, and by coordinating data that feeds forecast updates. You’ll also play a role in safety and quality oversight, actively monitoring safety performance and the workmanship of the contractor, and you’ll arrange for technical inspections through service providers as needed.
In this environment, collaboration matters. You’ll engage with internal stakeholders about onsite activities and logistics, and you’ll work with external partners to keep the project aligned with expectations and requirements. The setting is Perth-centric but linked to Bechtel’s broader capital projects ecosystem, so you’ll be part of a network that values clear communication and disciplined execution.
What you’ll need to succeed
- A bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) with 8–10 years of relevant experience, or 12–14 years of relevant work experience

Advice for applicants
Lead your resume with your track record delivering major building projects, especially where electrical systems and fire-life safety were central to the scope and commissioning was involved.
Back up must-have capabilities with concrete examples. Describe how you coordinated multi-disciplinary teams, reviewed contractor submittals, and used onsite data to inform progress reports and forecasts, along with your safety and quality oversight results.
Come prepared to talk through how you have influenced and engaged stakeholders within a large organisation and with external parties, including any client- or delivery-partner experience you’ve had and how you kept commercial awareness high.
Ask a focused question that shows you’ve thought about the WA context: for instance, inquire about which current aviation, defence or energy capital projects in Western Australia the team is prioritising and how a field engineer collaborates with the Construction Manager across disciplines on those programmes.
