On-site field engineering in East Perth
Day to day, you’ll coordinate with multiple disciplines and internal stakeholders to keep the project schedule moving. You’ll review contractor submittals, such as construction schedules, cost reports and changes, and you’ll gather data for progress updates and expenditure forecasts to keep financials in check.
You’ll also handle onsite logistics and support internal teams with project activities, ensuring planning and execution stay aligned with the project’s objectives. Safety and quality sit at the core of your work: you’ll monitor contractor safety practices and the quality of their output, arranging technical inspections and coordinating with service providers as needed to verify compliance with standards.
In this environment, you’ll need strong communication to influence and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders while maintaining appropriate commercial awareness. The role also benefits from prior delivery partner or client-side project management experience, which can help you navigate complex relationships and expectations on site.
What you’ll need to bring to the project
The team is looking for a blend of formal education and hands-on experience that aligns with Bechtel’s project demands.
- A bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant field, combined with 8–10 years of related work experience, or 12–14 years of relevant experience if you don’t have a degree
- A proven track record in managing major building projects from the field, ensuring alignment with scope and budget
- Hands-on experience with the installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical and HVAC systems
- A solid grasp of construction practices, economics and current methods used in design and construction
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a history of leading teams and influencing stakeholders in a large organisation or with external partners
- Ability to engage with internal and external colleagues while balancing commercial awareness and project goals
- Delivery partner or client-side project management experience is a plus but not essential

Advice for applicants
Put your major project management and MEP experience right up front on your resume. Make sure your degree and the 8–10 years (or 12–14 years if you don’t have a degree) are easy to find, and name the specific projects where you led field work on building systems.
Then show concrete examples that demonstrate your hands-on involvement with installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical and HVAC systems, and point to how you’ve coordinated across multiple disciplines to keep programs on track.
When you interview, be ready to explain how you review contractor submittals, forecast progress and manage expenditure data on site. Share stories about safety and quality you’ve enforced, and how you’ve coordinated inspections with service providers to meet project standards.
You’ll want to ask about Bechtel’s approach to safety and quality oversight on this Perth project and how field engineers and internal teams collaborate to resolve issues quickly while keeping commercial goals in view. A good question to pose is how the team balances schedule pressure with safety commitments on a complex MEP scope.
