FIRST Security, part of the Wilson Group, is looking for a Field Service Officer to join its Wellington team on a part-time, onsite basis. As one of New Zealand’s leading security providers, the company relies on capable people to keep communities safe and to deliver trusted services across the country. The role suits someone who enjoys hands-on fieldwork and problem-solving in a variety of settings, including courts, prisons and residential locations.

In this position you’ll install and maintain electronic monitoring equipment for individuals serving community-based sentences. You’ll operate across different sites in Wellington, handling device setup, routine maintenance, and quick responses to faults or alert activations. You’ll work with field support teams to resolve issues promptly and interact with clients and stakeholders in a professional, respectful way.

Shifts run on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1700 to 2300, so this part-time role is a good fit for someone who can commit to weekend evenings and enjoy steady, on-site work. FIRST Security emphasises safety and welfare, with a supportive leadership team backing you as you do your best work.

A day on the Wellington frontline

You’ll install and service electronic monitoring equipment, ensuring devices stay online and function in line with program requirements. When faults occur or alerts are triggered, you’ll respond quickly, troubleshoot on site, and coordinate with field support to restore service efficiently. Callouts span courts, prisons and residential locations, so you’ll adapt to diverse environments while keeping safety and professionalism at the forefront. You’ll keep clients and colleagues updated as issues are resolved and you may help out in other areas of the business when needed.

Professional, respectful interactions with clients and stakeholders are a core part of the day, and the role often requires coordinating with other teams to ensure smooth operations across sites and programs.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • A practical, can-do mindset and a willingness to learn new skills
  • Strong communication and listening abilities to engage with clients and teammates
  • Ability to think quickly and stay calm under pressure
  • A good level of physical fitness to handle field tasks
  • Full NZ Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to pass a Ministry of Justice Criminal Convictions check
  • A current COA or the ability to obtain one
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa

Benefits, training and schedule

The role includes full, ongoing training and development opportunities to help you grow within the team. You’ll join a supportive environment with strong leadership and gain access to a Perks program that offers discounts on retail, fuel and groceries. There are regular welfare checks and a strong health and safety culture, plus access to EAP services with confidential counselling and financial support for you and your family. FIRST Security is part of the Wilson Group, providing a broader network of security professionals.

Work is onsite in Wellington, with weekend evening shifts from 1700 to 2300, and the position is part-time. You’ll need NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa, a full NZ driver’s licence, and, in some cases, a current COA or the ability to obtain one to operate in designated settings.

Tips to help your application stand out

Put this role at the top of your resume with a clear label like Field Service Officer – Wellington (Part-time). Highlight any experience you have with electronic monitoring systems or security devices, and mention work in environments such as courts, prisons, or residential settings.

When you describe your experience, zoom in on evidence of a can-do mindset, your communication and listening skills, and times you stayed calm under pressure while resolving a device fault or handling a challenging callout.

Be ready to discuss how you approach on-site calls, safety protocols, and collaboration with field support teams. Think of a specific situation where you coordinated with others to resolve an issue quickly and safely, and be prepared to share the outcome.

Consider a thoughtful question that ties to the role, such as asking about the COA process and MOJ checks, how the team manages after-hours callouts, or what safety training looks like for visiting courts and prisons. These show you understand the practical realities of the position and are ready to contribute from day one.
