Job Summary

The Concrete Foreperson is a skilled position requiring supervision and coordination of activities of workers engaged in daily concrete curb and gutter operations. Ensuring work performed meets customer specifications as well as company expectations for safety, production, and waste management are key. 

Key Responsibilities:

•    Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, bylaws, regulations and acts, with an emphasis on safety and environmental issues. 
•    Positively participate in Goal Zero Initiative, including adhering to the Defined Activities as outlined for their role.
•    Understand curb and gutter specifications and dimensions. 
•    Ability to recognize proper forming techniques to support required dimensions of concrete structures. 
•    Enter time, material, and trucking information as well as journal notes into a computer reporting system daily. 
•    Proper reporting of all incidents including completing all documentation within 24 hours. 
•    Ensure proper coding (codes must match the project). 
•    Conduct daily tailgate meeting, including hazard assessment complete with proper documentation. 
•    Control daily cost (i.e. equipment, personnel, and materials).
•    Control waste. 
•    Schedule, coordinate, and supervise the daily activities of employees. 
•    Maintain site cleanliness.
•    Ensure proper respect for, and operation of equipment. 
•    Track and report daily job productions (physical journal).
•    Mentor and develop subordinates.
•    Adhere to all safety requirements and applicable safety policies. 
•    Orientation and training of crew.
•    Maintain company image (i.e. clean truck, proper personal image).

Qualifications

Education, Training and Certifications    
•    Completion of grade 12 or equivalent preferred. 
•    First aid experience considered an asset. 
•    Valid driver’s license (Class 5) with clean driving abstract.
•    Own transportation. 

 

Work Experience    
•    Minimum 5 years related concrete experience.
•    Road building and curb and gutter knowledge. 
•    Experience pouring with a concrete extruder (Gomaco) is an asset. 

 

Technical Skills
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office. 
•    Strong organizational and record keeping skills. 
•    Positive attitude and ability to motivate and mentor crew members.

Working Conditions

•    Overtime as required.
•    Ability to work a 12 hour day.
•    Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, grease, fumes, odors, oil, asphalt, and toxic      and flammable substances.
•    Required to perform tasks that involve heavy lifting, bending, crouching, and kneeling.
•    Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
•    Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
•    Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol policy, including testing requirements.
•    Must comply with all company policies.
