Group Strategic Finance Analyst
Octopus EnergyOctopus Energy, a global builder of clean energy with transparent pricing and a strong emphasis on customer experience, is looking for a Group Strategic Finance Analyst to join its London team, onsite. The company operates with a sustainability-led mindset and a flat, open culture that favours experimentation and getting things done. It’s a place for people who like to own problems, speak plainly, and bring their whole selves to work. The role sits in the Strategic Finance group and focuses on driving growth for the UK and international markets.
Octopus Energy describes its culture as one that supports autonomy and collaboration, where ideas can move quickly from concept to execution. If you enjoy blending strategic thinking with rigorous financial analysis and want to contribute to a business that blends technology and green energy, this is a role worth considering. The team works across borders to build financial foundations that underpin ambitious expansion while staying true to the company’s customer-first ethos.
You’ll be stepping into a role that combines deep financial modelling with real-world decision support. Expect to work on complex models, contribute to performance reporting, and help shape decisions that affect capital allocation and the company’s path to scale across multiple jurisdictions. The position offers exposure to capital structure management, investor and board interactions, and formal financial reporting, all of which suit someone who enjoys turning data into clear, actionable insight.
Minding the numbers behind the growth
You’ll lead the creation and upkeep of both near-term and long-range financial models that pull together inputs from four business units, more than two dozen entities, and operations in over a dozen active country presences into cohesive Group outputs. This is about turning disparate, multi-entity data into a single, trusted view that guides decisions across the organisation.
Part of your day-to-day will be coordinating annual budget work across the strategic finance team and the broader entity finance teams wherever they sit in the Group. You’ll partner with the CFO to weigh growth against returns and liquidity, evaluating how new lines of business and other investments would impact the capital allocation framework.
At month-end you’ll provide financial outlooks and contribute to reporting and analysis that sits on top of the standard numbers, plus you’ll help prepare responses for investor relations Q&As. You’ll curate monthly financial and strategic materials for the Group and support ad hoc requests from investors and the board, translating complex information into concise, compelling narrative for senior audiences.
On projects that touch capital structure, you’ll assist with debt and equity funding and related activities, including information memoranda and due diligence workstreams. You’ll also help prepare financial reports and support lender Q&A to nurture ongoing banking relationships, ensuring the Group’s capital discussions stay grounded in solid analysis. In addition, you’ll help manage monthly and ad hoc Group guarantees and letters of credit, and assess business cases for new requests or investments that subsidiaries present for funding or capital allocation.

Advice for applicants
Lead your resume with your FP&A or corporate finance experience, and spotlight the times you built and maintained group-wide financial models, especially those that integrated four business units and a broad set of entities. If you’ve already consolidated inputs into a Group-level output, mention the scale, two dozen entities and more than a dozen country presences, to show you’ve handled the breadth this role demands.
When you describe your must-have skills, pair each claim with a concrete example. For instance, cite a project where you built a three-statement model and used it to inform capital allocation decisions or a board-facing presentation where you translated data into a strategic narrative for senior leaders.
Prepare to discuss capital allocation trade-offs in real terms, how you would balance growth, returns, and liquidity, and how you would assess the impact of a new product or service. Be ready to walk through a decision process that mirrors the role’s responsibilities, including how you’d work with the CFO and other stakeholders to prioritise investments.
Think of a smart question to ask at the end of an interview, such as: how does the Group Strategic Finance team collaborate with other functions when evaluating new lines of business, and what kinds of board content will this role typically contribute to?
