We have an exciting opportunity for the Head of Network Inclusion, Reporting to the General Manager Passenger Information and Community Relations, the Head of Network Inclusion is an active advocate for all passengers being able to access and use the Metro Trains network.

Working with a team of subject matter experts, and influencing through strategic relationships, the role is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that seek to make the Metro Trains network accessible to all.

You’ll play a critical role balancing accessibility related legislative and regulatory requirements, stakeholder perspectives, operational needs and external pressure within a constrained environment. Additionally, the role is responsible for Metro Trains Melbourne’ s Community Education team who undertake engagement and education sessions with a range of community groups including youth, CALD, seniors and people with a disability to improve confidence in the use of the rail network.

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Be an active advocate for passengers, and lead Metro’s commitment to operating a network that is accessible for all.
  • Lead the implementation of  Metro’s strategy for accessibility via the Accessibility Action Plan.
  • Lead the implementation of the Community Education Team’s strategic plan .
  • Identify and engage with trends in passenger needs, MTM passenger feedback data and emerging issues to influence internally and externally to deliver a better passenger experience.
  • Lead Metro’s responses to current and emerging accessibility related regulatory or legislative changes especially as it relates to Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport obligations.
  • Make recommendations and drive business improvements to processes, procedures and systems and achieve positive passenger outcomes collaborating across the Metro Trains business.
  • Develop and embed internal assurance processes against accessibility obligations.
  • Lead and manage the Network Inclusion team to achieve outcomes for passengers, employees and the business.
  • Influence via senior stakeholder relationships across the Department of Transport & Planning, Australian Human Rights Commission, the disability sector  and internally

 

 Qualifications

 

  • Tertiary education (social sciences or related field).
  • Significant experience in roles with an accessibility or diversity and inclusion focus preferably in an essential services environment (transport, utilities, local government etc)
  • Experience providing strategic advice related to accessibility regulation and legislation.
  • Experience leading teams to deliver a range of initiatives against strict deadlines.
  • Experience delivering community engagement programs across a range of audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder skills; able to effectively influence and build and maintain successful relationships. Displays comprehensive understanding of, and demonstrated experience managing stakeholders, issues and reputation.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Exhibits superior skills in oral and written communications and can work with and influence all levels of leadership.
  • Flexible and adaptable; comfortable working with ambiguity and in environments of constant change; prioritises effectively.
