Description & Requirements

Being in a business support role at Australia Post means helping our people deliver for every Australian. Just like our Posties, you’re still the people behind every parcel. Whatever your team or role, you’re helping grow our people, grow our business and making a lasting impact on the Australian community. You’ll find a culture of connection in our great people and the flexibility to balance work with life outside of it.

About the opportunity

As part of Australia Post's investment in achieving our Australia Post 30 objectives, we have established three new Head of Portfolio Execution leadership roles to strengthen portfolio execution and delivery across our Customer, Operations or Support Office portfolios.  In these critical leadership roles, you will lead a portfolio of strategic investments, providing focused leadership and strategic partnership to ensure initiatives are prioritised, sequenced and executed to maximise value, accelerate outcomes and support Australia Post's long-term strategy.

Sitting within Australia Post’s Transformation Office, you will work across programs, projects and business leaders to drive alignment, manage interdependencies, optimise resource allocation and support enterprise investment decisions. Acting as the link between strategic intent and delivery execution, you will provide portfolio insights, shape planning and prioritisation activities, and help navigate risks, constraints and opportunities across a broad transformation landscape.

This is a highly influential role requiring strong commercial acumen, enterprise leadership and the ability to bring people together around a shared outcome. You will help embed modern portfolio management practices, foster greater coordination across the organisation and ensure Australia Post is equipped to deliver transformation at scale. If you thrive in complex environments and enjoy leading meaningful change, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future of Australia Post.

What you’ll deliver with us

Commercial & Strategic Priorities

  • Lead the orchestration of dependencies across the portfolio, ensuring initiatives are aligned, sequenced and coordinated to optimise delivery outcomes and minimise execution risk.
  • Bring an enterprise-wide perspective to portfolio execution, identifying and resolving systemic delivery challenges, competing priorities and macro execution issues that impact the successful delivery of strategic outcomes.
  • Partner with business leaders to shape, challenge and independently assess investment business cases, ensuring initiatives are strategically aligned, commercially robust and positioned to deliver measurable value.
  • Provide leadership and guidance across the portfolio by promoting best-practice delivery approaches, coaching teams through the project lifecycle and embedding consistent, effective ways of working.
  • Drive the uplift of delivery and transformation capability across the portfolio, building organisational maturity, strengthening execution disciplines and enabling sustainable delivery outcomes.
  • Translate strategic objectives into coordinated portfolio execution.
  • Ensure alignment to strategic design principles aligned to business, process and tech architecture.
  • Design, chair, and facilitate transformation sequencing and planning forums in partnership with the GM Post30 Transformation Office.
  • Support and inform Quarterly Investment Review processes by providing portfolio delivery insights, recommendations, and risk/blocker analysis.
  • Coordinate cross- portfolio sequencing, critical constraints, capacity alignment, insights and recommendations to allow them to align schedules to ensure uninterrupted delivery.

Financial

  • Input into decision to fund priorities from investment funding and enable quarterly rebalance.
  • Align financial objectives across transformation initiatives with enterprise strategy
  • Identify and manage financial and commercial risks across the portfolio, ensuring visibility and mitigation strategies are embedded in planning and governance
  • Ensure statements of work and commercial arrangements are evaluated to align with enterprise needs and delivery outcomes
  • Identify savings and efficiency gains through transformation rationalisation.

About you

You are a seasoned transformation and portfolio execution leader who thrives in complex, enterprise-scale environments. With deep expertise in transformation, strategy execution and portfolio management, you know how to turn strategic ambition into coordinated delivery outcomes that create measurable business value. You bring a strong understanding of the commercial and planning disciplines required to run large organisations, combining transformation leadership with financial expertise across investment planning, budgeting, forecasting, benefits realisation and P&L management. Ideally, you have played a key role in large-scale finance or business transformation initiatives and understand how to balance delivery pace, risk and investment outcomes.

You are equally comfortable influencing Executive General Managers as you are partnering with program leaders and delivery teams. As a trusted advisor and execution leader, you can confidently challenge, influence and guide stakeholders through difficult conversations, whether that means accelerating priorities, slowing delivery to manage risk, or making informed trade-off decisions. You bring extensive experience in portfolio governance, dependency management, sequencing, capacity planning and benefits tracking, underpinned by expertise in contemporary delivery practices including Lean Portfolio Management, agile, lean and hybrid delivery models.

Most importantly, you are a collaborative leader who can work across Transformation Office’s Planning, Governance and Change functions, as well as transformation programs and business-as-usual teams, to improve portfolio flow and delivery performance. You use data, insights and systems thinking to identify opportunities, remove friction and drive alignment across complex portfolios. Your success will be measured by your ability to build executive confidence through transparent reporting and risk visibility, improve sequencing and dependency management, deliver commercially disciplined outcomes, and create a more connected, coordinated and effective transformation ecosystem across Australia Post.

What else is in it for you?

  • Bring your whole self to work every day and be met by a welcoming bunch of people who respect and support you
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements, like the opportunity to work from home two days per week
  • Opportunities for growth and development through formal programs or mentorship
  • Exclusive team member discounts and offers for more cash in your pocket, evolving policies for flexible working, leave types and access to health and wellbeing resources
