Health and Safety Manager

Kohl & Frisch Limited is looking for a Health and Safety Manager to lead a hands-on safety program at their onsite Concord, CA operation. This full-time role sits in the Operations team and is ideal for someone who wants to anchor the safety effort across distribution centers and partner with leaders to keep people and processes safe. The company has a storied history dating back to 1916 as a national, Canadian-owned distributor connecting pharmaceutical manufacturers with healthcare providers across the country.

The Health and Safety Manager owns all health and safety and workers’ compensation activities to ensure ongoing legislative compliance and to serve as the primary contact with regulatory bodies. In this role, you’ll translate safety strategy into practical actions, keep interactions with authorities productive, and help the organization stay aligned with industry standards while supporting everyday operations on the floor and in warehouses.

Steering safety across the distribution network

Day to day, you’ll design and drive the safety program so it lines up with the business goals, acting as a trusted advisor to employees and leaders on matters of health and safety. You’ll oversee the actions from the Joint Health and Safety Committee and monitor provincial safety legislation to anticipate future requirements. When regulatory interventions occur, you’ll be the first point of contact and you’ll lead investigations into any safety incidents, conducting audits of all distribution centers to verify compliance. You’ll identify hazards, craft action plans to mitigate risk, and help shape business continuity planning while managing the safety budget and performing other duties as needed.

What you bring to the role

Must-haves: You should have at least five years of direct experience handling health and safety and workers’ compensation duties, ideally within an industrial, manufacturing or distribution setting. A college diploma or an equivalent credential is required. You’ll need to demonstrate leadership capabilities and the ability to guide the H&S function across multiple provinces. A solid understanding of health and safety and workers’ compensation legislation and regulations is essential, along with strong skills in workplace inspections and investigations. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, comfort in a fast-paced, multi-provincial environment, and a proactive approach that works well in a team with minimal supervision are all important.

Nice-to-haves: A CRSP designation would be a valuable asset.

Pay, benefits and practical details

The role offers a salary range of CAD 95,000 to CAD 120,000 per year, exclusive of discretionary bonus eligibility and the full benefits package. The final salary will reflect location, relevant experience, skill level and education.

There is potential for additional compensation in the form of a bonus or commission structure, and a pension plan that becomes available after 18 months of service. Travel is possible, with up to 30% of your time anticipated to be on the road.
