Land Surveyor
AECOMAECOM, a global force in infrastructure consulting, is hiring a Land Surveyor for a full-time, onsite role in Dubai. The company helps communities improve mobility, access to services, and cityscapes, and it backs a vast, world-spanning team of professionals who solve complex challenges across water, energy, transportation and buildings. This position suits someone who likes practical fieldwork, precise measurement, and coordinating with survey crews and contractor staff on a busy site.
The job sits on a live site where survey tasks are guided by the Assistant Resident Engineer. You’ll be hands-on in the field, working on a major project and contributing to the accuracy of layout and control as the work progresses. It’s a role that rewards practical problem solving, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly with teammates on site.
AECOM is a Fortune 500 firm with revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2025. They emphasise a secure and trustworthy recruitment process, including in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment, and the company is committed to equal opportunity in hiring.
Fieldwork that keeps a project on track
In this role you’ll lead on-site survey activities, establishing the main horizontal and vertical references and tying them to re-establish field positions as the project evolves. You’ll also supervise the survey crew and coordinate closely with the contractor’s surveyor to keep work priorities and schedules aligned with the project plan.
As work advances, you’ll record measurements, rod readings, and calculations neatly in field books and perform the routine checks that ensure accuracy. You’ll verify progress against the project plans in collaboration with the inspector, and you’ll handle joint measurements that determine payment for completed work. Regular checks of the contractor’s setting out help confirm proper execution, and you’ll report any discrepancies or technical problems to the Assistant Resident Engineer while keeping calibration and maintenance of equipment up to date.
What you’ll bring to the field
- Proven field survey experience, including establishing primary control points and reference ties to re-establish field positions
- Experience supervising a survey party and coordinating with the contractor’s surveyor on priorities and schedules
- Strong ability to record measurements and calculations clearly in field books as work progresses
- Capable of checking work against project plans and coordinating with inspectors to ensure the line and grade meet design requirements
- Habit of regularly verifying setting out for accuracy and keeping survey equipment in good working order with routine calibration
- Past leadership of survey crews on construction projects
- Experience performing joint measurements used for payment calculations
- Familiarity with field book conventions and basic equipment maintenance routines

Advice for applicants
Highlight on your resume any hands-on field leadership you’ve had, especially projects where you established control points, tied references, and supervised survey teams on site. Point to specific instances where your work supported structured layouts and successful collaboration with contractor surveyors.
During interviews, be ready to walk through how you record field measurements, perform traverse closures, and check lines and grades against project plans. Bring sample field books or calibration logs if you have them and be prepared to discuss how you handled discrepancies with the Assistant Resident Engineer and inspectors on a live project.
Anticipate scenario questions about coordinating with a contractor’s surveyor, adjusting schedules when field conditions shift, and maintaining instrument accuracy over the life of a project. Have clear responses that demonstrate your method for verifying setting out and ensuring consistent results across tasks.
Ask a thoughtful question about how the Dubai project teams balance field priorities with contractor workflows, or about the specifics of Day 1 onboarding and how the team on site collaborates with the Resident Engineer to resolve on-site measurement challenges.
