About the Role

We're looking for a Lead/Principal Water Engineer (Process) to join our growing Water team, ideally based in Wellington. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment projects, supporting everything from planning and feasibility studies through to detailed design, project delivery and construction support.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of water, civil, mechanical, electrical and environmental specialists, you'll play a key role in developing innovative treatment solutions that address complex water and wastewater challenges.

What You'll Do

  • Develop process designs for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Undertake wastewater treatment planning, feasibility assessments and option evaluations.
  • Prepare Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and treatment plant layouts.
  • Perform hydraulic modelling and process calculations for treatment systems.
  • Undertake biological and process modelling to support treatment plant design and optimisation.
  • Use specialist wastewater treatment and process modelling software to evaluate and develop treatment solutions.
  • Contribute to proposals, technical reports, design documentation and client presentations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to junior engineers and developing professionals.
  • Support business development activities, customer engagement and tender submissions.

What You'll Bring

  • A degree in Chemical, Process, Environmental, Civil or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Chartered status or progress toward chartership in a relevant engineering field.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering wastewater treatment planning and design projects.
  • Strong understanding of biological treatment processes, hydraulic design principles and wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Experience using process and hydraulic modelling software such as BioWin, GPS-X, WEST, SUMO or similar tools.
  • The ability to develop complex process flow diagrams and technical design documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • A collaborative approach and a passion for delivering sustainable water solutions.
  • Experience mentoring, supporting and leading junior engineers.
  • An interest in supporting business development activities and contributing to tender submissions.
  • A track record leading process design for plant upgrades, planned maintenance projects, renewals and new-build treatment facilities.
  • Current New Zealand working rights.
