KPMG New Zealand is looking for a skilled M&A professional to join its Deal Advisory team in Auckland, at the Manager, Senior Manager or Associate Director level. This is a hybrid role within a global professional services firm that helps clients solve complex challenges, steer change and grow. The Deal Advisory group focuses on high-value strategic and financial decisions around acquisitions, divestments and large-scale capital investment, bringing financial analysis, market insight and commercial sense to support sound investments and NZ growth. Recruitment for this role is handled directly by KPMG's Talent Acquisition team.
KPMG has a well established presence in New Zealand as a trusted M&A advisor, backed by a senior team with deep investment banking background. The opportunity is to join a growing M&A advisory group and partner with experienced dealmakers to guide clients through important strategic moves, including acquisitions, divestitures, capital raisings and growth initiatives. The role sits within a globally ranked M&A platform that consistently sits at the top in the mid-market, and with a leading New Zealand team that won the INFINZ mid-market M&A deal of the year in 2026. This means a strong pipeline of high-quality mandates, domestic and cross-border, often delivered in collaboration with colleagues across multiple jurisdictions. For more about the M&A team, you can read the details at https://home.kpmg/nz/en/home/services/advisory/deal-advisory/selling-a-business.html.
Stepping through the M&A lifecycle with a NZ market leader
Day-to-day you will work closely with business owners, executives, boards and investors throughout the transaction lifecycle, building trusted relationships and ensuring clear communication at every stage. You’ll analyse industries, markets and the specific dynamics of each target, and you’ll help prepare core process materials like information memorandums and management presentations. Developing financial models and performing valuation work will be a key part of your toolkit, and you’ll extract commercial insights and craft recommendations that support critical business decisions. Supporting the senior team in coordinating the overall M&A process, you’ll collaborate with the broader Deal Advisory group and senior stakeholders across the full lifecycle, and you’ll help manage deal processes and team operations while coaching junior team members.
What the team is looking for
We’re looking for a candidate with at least three years of hands-on experience in M&A, investment banking, corporate development or related strategy roles. If you’ve evaluated significant investments or growth opportunities and helped steer complex business decisions, you’ll fit well in this advisory environment. A strong academic record helps, as does solid analytical and financial modelling capability or a proven quantitative skillset. The right person will bring commercial acumen and the ability to understand the key value drivers of various industries, plus a proactive, self-starting approach and the ability to perform under pressure. Clear communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, and there’s a genuine interest in M&A, corporate strategy and helping clients navigate complex business decisions. Nice-to-haves include exposure to cross-border deals or working with teams across multiple jurisdictions, and some coaching or mentoring experience for junior members.
Pay, benefits and practical details you can rely on
The role is hybrid, combining time in the office with time at home, in Auckland. KPMG offers flexible leave options, including the ability to purchase additional annual leave, and provides Whanau@KPMG, a 18 weeks’ paid flexible leave policy for all new parents (primary and secondary carers). There is unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning with learning pathways tailored for employees, along with discounts on a range of lifestyle goods and services. The firm supports Inclusion, Diversity and Equity networks and has a Social club with activities like cooking classes, painting and quiz nights. KPMG values diversity and encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities or neurodivergence. For accessibility needs during recruitment, you can email [email protected], and for general questions about the role or process, [email protected] is the contact. These benefits and policies reflect the firm’s aim to provide holistic support for your work life as a KPMG employee.
Advice for applicants
Showcase your M&A experience up front on your resume, focusing on the three-plus years in M&A, investment banking, corporate development or strategy, and highlight any involvement with significant investments, growth opportunities or complex decisions. When you describe your background, illustrate how you’ve used financial modelling to drive a valuation or deal outcome and mention the key value drivers you identified in past roles. In interviews, be ready to walk through a deal you contributed to, your role in building the information memorandum or management presentation, how you supported the process, and the impact of your analysis. Finally, consider asking about cross-border collaboration and how the team supports junior staff across jurisdictions, tying it back to the firm’s strong mid-market platform and international collaboration.
