Materials & Qualification Specialist
NexansNexans, a global cable manufacturer with about 28,000 people in 42 countries, is seeking a Materials & Qualification Specialist to join its Engineering team in Markham on a full-time, on-site basis. The company is focused on electrifying the future and delivering smarter, more sustainable energy solutions, valuing diverse perspectives and collaboration across its multinational footprint.
The role reports to the Engineering and Technical Director and sits at the crossroads of supply chain, manufacturing, and product qualification. You’ll be the technical voice for Grid & Connect North America across raw materials, semi-finished and finished goods, bridging North America commercial and supply chain teams with global counterparts and the central engineering function. You’ll also back CSA and UL qualification efforts at global sites, helping ensure Nexans’ cables meet the right standards wherever they’re produced.
For the right candidate, this position offers a chance to影响 Nexans’ product qualification strategy while working in a company with a long Canadian lineage, from early involvement in major infrastructure projects to today’s vertically integrated manufacturing. The team values autonomy at the local level within a global engineering framework and welcomes a candidate who brings hands-on experience and clear communication skills.
Minding the North American cable supply chain
On a day-to-day basis, you’ll steer UL and CSA qualification projects for manufacturing sites in North America and beyond, keeping project plans on track and assessing whether existing certifications still cover the cables that NAM teams intend to quote. You’ll collaborate with purchasing and operations to identify, test and approve new raw material suppliers for cost savings, qualification credentials and risk mitigation, and you’ll push for standardization of raw materials across NAM sites where possible. You’ll also conduct initial supplier inspections and ongoing audits as needed to safeguard supply reliability and material quality.
Part of the role involves guiding the inter-company supply program, offering technical oversight and regularly checking in once production has started. You’ll help sites understand manufacturing capabilities and identify gaps so they’re better positioned to produce the required UL/CSA cables, including recommending locally sourced equipment where appropriate to support NAM cable constructions.
Quality and compliance sit at the heart of this job. You’ll participate in NAM ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification activities and audits, and you’ll monitor testing of globally sourced raw materials and finished goods to ensure conformity with internal and customer specifications and applicable standards. When commercial or marketing teams need technical input, you’ll provide CSA/UL product knowledge and even engage directly with customers, installers and end users as needed. If backlog or coverage gaps arise, you’ll serve as a backup for product design engineers at NAM sites.
Overall, the role carries a balanced mix of project leadership, technical ownership of raw material sourcing and broader central engineering support, roughly 50 percent, 25 percent and 25 percent of focus, respectively, across a global network of sites and suppliers.

Tips to stand out in this Nexans role
Lead your resume with your cable experience and certification work. Start with a summary that highlights at least five years in cable design, manufacturing or applications engineering and calls out your CSA/UL qualification project experience, plus any cross-functional collaboration you’ve led.
Show how you’ve proven the must-have skills by detailing a real UL/CSA qualification project you managed, note the scope, timelines, teams involved, and how you kept certifications current across NAM and global sites.
Get ready for interviews by mapping out concrete examples of supplier audits, raw material qualification initiatives, and the process of obtaining CSA/UL approvals. Be prepared to discuss past travel and cross-site coordination experiences and how you handled any challenges that came up.
Ask a smart question about the current CSA/UL project pipeline and how this role prioritizes collaboration across NAM and global teams to align standards with cost and supply chain realities. It shows you’ve thought about how the position fits into Nexans’ broader qualification strategy.
