Babcock is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technician -Surveyor to join the Survey team based in Devonport, Auckland.

Working alongside experienced survey leaders, you’ll support project delivery, manage survey data, and ensure surveys adhere to relevant QA/QC standards to influence and improve quality outcomes. About you

 

You are a practical, detail-focused engineering professional with solid hands-on experience in mechanical or structural environments. You’re confident conducting inspections, interpreting standards, and assessing defects before they become failures. You enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, supporting project delivery and maintaining high-quality documentation. With strong communication skills and a safety-first mindset, you take ownership of your work, stay organised under pressure, and are motivated to continually improve processes and outcomes.

 

Key Required Skills

 

  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques and application
  • Mechanical and structural inspection capability
  • Knowledge of welding and fabrication standards
  • Surveying equipment operation and data interpretation
  • Technical reporting and documentation accuracy
  • Quality assurance and compliance management
  • MS Office and inspection software proficiency
  • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination

 

Key Required Qualifications

 

  • Trade or technical qualification in mechanical/fabrication engineering
  • General survey or engineering certification
  • NDT certification (e.g. PCN, AINDT, ASNT, ISO 9712) – desirable
  • Welding inspection certification (e.g. CSWIP, CWI, IIW) – desirable
