Operations Specialist, ETFs
Fidelity InternationalFidelity International is looking to hire an Operations Specialist, ETFs in Sydney, Australia. This full-time, permanent role sits in the Operations department and is based onsite, reporting to the Associate Director, Fund Accounting at level 5. The ETF team is part of Fidelity’s broader effort to deliver excellent investment solutions to direct investors, advisers, intermediaries, and institutions, and Fidelity has been helping clients build better financial futures for more than 50 years. The Australian ETF chapter currently runs 14 unlisted funds and 5 Active ETFs, with plans to broaden the offering.
In this role you’ll be at the heart of Fidelity’s ETF capability in Australia, coordinating activities across the ETF primary and secondary markets and working closely with external service providers such as Market Makers, Authorized Participants and iNAV providers. You’ll help evolve the ETF platform so it continues to function smoothly alongside all the stakeholders that support the ETF ecosystem. If you enjoy turning intricate processes into clear, repeatable workflows and want to contribute to ongoing growth in ETF products, you’d likely feel at home here.
Mornings in the ETF operations hub
Your day-to-day revolves around keeping the ETF operations running reliably. You’ll perform start-of-day checks before the ASX market opens, validate the daily iNAVs, and review portfolio disclosure files used by third-party services. During the trading day you’ll monitor vendor performance and ensure market-making obligations and AP creations/redemptions are being handled properly, while keeping a close eye on regulatory and disclosure requirements. You’ll also oversee third-party providers, continually looking for ways to improve operational functionality and maintain up-to-date processes and documentation to stay compliant with audit and regulatory requirements.
Beyond daily execution, the role includes ongoing oversight of external vendors and contributing to the growth of Fidelity’s ETF offering. You’ll assist with the delivery and implementation of new ETF share classes or new ETF vehicles, and you may provide cross-functional support to Fund Accounting to ensure continuity during peak times or staff absences. This position also calls for building solid relationships with internal teams and external partners, both locally and across Fidelity’s global footprint.
The must-haves you’ll bring
Here’s what Fidelity is looking for in this role. You’ll need to demonstrate:
- Five or more years of relevant experience in an ETF or fund accounting service environment, ideally within a fund manager, custodian or fund administrator.
- Experience handling ETF operations and markets, with a preference for familiarity with iNAVs, market making and AP activity.
- RG146 compliance or a readiness to complete the training to obtain it.
- Higher education in a field that supports fund accounting knowledge.
- A detailed understanding of the rules around managed investment schemes and the regulatory requirements of a Responsible Entity.
- A strong client focus with a fast, accurate response style and a high level of attention to detail, aiming to exceed expectations.
- The ability to simplify complex issues and work independently, using initiative to deliver results.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and a willingness to improve processes, automation and efficiencies.
- Flexible and positive attitude toward hours and responsibilities, plus a collaborative mindset to help teammates meet business goals.
- Solid communication and teamwork skills, with reliability to manage resources and timelines to keep key tasks on track.

You’ll stand out if you bring any of these, though they aren’t mandatory:
- Experience working with third-party ETF providers, including market makers, APs and iNAV calculation agents, and coordinating with related teams.
- A track record of contributing to process improvements or automation within ETF operations.
- Experience supporting cross-functional initiatives across Fund Accounting or related teams.

Advice for applicants you can use
Lead your resume with your ETF and fund accounting experience, especially any roles that involved ETF operations, iNAV management, market making, and AP activity. If you’ve worked with iNAV providers or third-party service teams, call those duties out early so the recruiter sees you meet the core needs.
Show how you meet the must-haves by citing concrete examples: your years of ETF/fund accounting experience, your RG146 status or progress toward it, and your familiarity with managed investment schemes and Responsible Entity requirements. Quantify where possible, like noting how you reduced a processing time or improved a control you own.
Prepare for interviews by outlining a real-world scenario: how you would run start-of-day checks, handle a discrepancy in iNAV publication, or respond to a regulatory change that affects APs. Be ready to discuss how you’ve built or improved processes and how you’ve worked with external vendors to resolve issues quickly.
End with a thoughtful question that speaks to this role’s scope, such as how Fidelity Australia’s ETF platform integrates with global ETF operations and what ETF launches are on the horizon.
