Advice for applicants
Lead your resume with the must-haves by placing your payroll experience and your PCP designation (or progress toward it) front and center, followed by a line about your 2–5 years in payroll and your hands-on work with Payworks in a high-volume setting.
When you describe your experience, quantify what you’ve done. Include numbers around payroll processed, the scale of onboarding you’ve handled, and how you maintained accuracy and met deadlines. Show off your Excel skills with concrete examples of PivotTables and formulas you’ve used to streamline payroll tasks.
Prepare for interviews by outlining how you’ve managed timesheets, attendance, overtime and pay adjustments, plus any experience dealing with complex tax rules and employment standards. Be ready with a scenario about a difficult payroll discrepancy and how you resolved it while keeping stakeholders informed.
Think of a smart question to ask about the role, for example: what payroll system is currently used day-to-day (Payworks or others) and how does the team collaborate with HR and finance during big onboarding waves?
