Transport for NSW is hiring a permanent full-time Plant Operator to be based in Bowenfels, onsite, where safety comes first and quality work matters. In this role, you'll:

 

• Operate a varied range of plant and heavy machinery, such as rollers, backhoe and soil stabiliser

• Support the crew with manual labour tasks and carry out the full scope of responsibilities aligned with a Road Worker Grade 3.

• Undertake road construction and maintenance activities, which may include (but not limited to) road widening, barrier installations, pavement upgrades, overtaking lane construction and heavy patching works.

• Travel across the region to attend various worksites, including participating in call outs where required. Accommodation will be provided, along with a Living Away From Home Allowance (LAFHA) in these circumstances.

• Be available to work renumerated overtime when offered.

 

 

You’ll be part of a dedicated work crew that includes a team leader, road workers and fellow plant operators, working together to deliver road maintenance and construction projects across the state network.

 

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

• Maintaining existing pavement surfaces

• Constructing new or upgraded pavements

• Carrying out general labouring duties

• Establishing and maintaining roadside fixtures and signage

• Managing vegetation, including brush cutting, tree removal and branch trimming

• Responding to incidents and removing hazards to ensure road user safety

• Cleaning and maintaining drainage structures

This is a permanent full time position based in Bowenfels. Candidates must reside within 100 km travel distance of the Orange or Bowenfels works depot (or be willing to relocate).

About you

 

We are seeking an experienced Plant Operator who can work effectively with minimal supervision and is committed to maintaining a safe, injury free workplace for all team members.

 

 

Your strong work ethic, reliability and positive attitude—whether developed through previous employment or life experience—will set you up for success in this role. Flexibility, a safety first mindset and readiness for physically demanding work are essential.

 

 

Previous road construction or plant operation experience is required.

 

 

Experience operating machinery such as excavators, bobcats and padfoot/smooth drum rollers is essential. Additional relevant tickets and a Traffic Controller Card (or the ability to obtain one within the first 3 months of employment) are highly desirable.

 

 

You must be willing to work outside standard hours, attend callouts, travel across the district and work away from home when required.

 

 

Applicants must reside within a 100 km travel distance of the Orange or Bowenfels works depot or be willing to relocate.

 

 

Essential Tickets and Licences:

 

• White Card

• Current unrestricted NSW motor vehicle driver’s licence

• Willingness to undertake any required legislated or internal licensing and ticketing as directed
