Bayer is searching for a Plant PCT Engineer to join its Crop Science team on site in Muttenz, near Basel. This role centers on electrical and instrumentation matters that influence plant operability, reliability, maintenance, investments and technology improvements, with an eye on technical compliance and safety. You’ll work as a core member of the Plant Technical Team, coordinating with engineering, operations and external partners to keep production safe, efficient and sustainable.

The position is full-time and onsite, designed for someone with a solid background in electrical engineering or process control technology who enjoys solving control-system challenges in a chemical-industry environment and collaborating across disciplines. If you’re looking for a hands-on role that also shapes maintenance strategy and investment plans, this could be a strong match.

The job sits in Bayer’s Crop Science division and is based in Muttenz, in the Basel area, offering the chance to contribute to meaningful work while operating within a global company’s framework.

Keeping the plant humming at the PCT level

In practice, you’ll own the electrical and instrumentation aspects that affect how the plant runs, ensuring operability, reliability and safety while driving continuous improvements. You’ll help shape maintenance programs, either leading them or contributing to broader strategies, and you’ll manage budgeted maintenance work and investments up to 5 Mio €, while taking part in larger projects within your scope. You’ll keep up with internal and external guidelines, ensuring compliance with local technical and legal requirements, company policies and operational excellence practices in PCT. Scheduling preventive maintenance, adjusting plans based on plant performance and historical break-downs will be part of your routine, as will identifying and evaluating PCT modifications and improvements for the plant. When DCS issues arise, you’ll troubleshoot and revise maintenance schedules to reduce downtime, and you’ll drive improvement initiatives to keep the system reliable. You’ll also create and maintain PCT documentation and help spread knowledge and good practices across the PCT community on site.

What you bring to the PCT team

Here’s what the job expects in terms of formal qualifications and experience.

  • University degree in Electrical engineering or Process Control Technology
  • Three to five years of hands-on experience in PCT or a closely related environment
  • Solid understanding of common processes and standards in process control technology
  • Proficiency with engineering tools and software
  • Hands-on project or maintenance experience in PCT within the chemical industry
  • Clear technical and economic skill set with a solid grasp of process control concepts and project management
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities, with the capacity to lead a team and work with colleagues from diverse educational backgrounds
  • Solid understanding of supporting processes tied to plant operations and maintenance
  • Fluent in German and English; knowledge of additional languages is a plus
