Senior Emotor Mechanical Expert
Li AutoLi Auto is seeking a Senior Emotor Mechanical Expert to join its Munich engineering presence. This full-time, onsite role is based in Munich, Germany, and is ideal for someone who loves turning complex motor ideas into dependable hardware. The company is building a world-class team to lead the mechanical side of electric motors, from concept through production, and you’ll be at the heart of shaping core motor technology.
In this position, you’ll steer the mechanical design and integrated development of motors, focusing on the key components such as stators, rotors, end covers, bearings and other essentials. You’ll set design specifications, standards and processes, and you’ll take the lead on solving tough mechanical challenges that arise during R&D, production and field application. The role sits at the intersection of technology, manufacturing and product realization, so it rewards people who enjoy hands-on leadership, cross-functional collaboration and delivering concrete, manufacturable solutions.
Minding the gears in Munich
On a day-to-day basis, you’ll guide the mechanical engineering of motor systems from early research through to ready-for-production hardware. You’ll translate requirements into robust mechanical designs, validate them against structural and assembly constraints, and work to minimize vibration and noise while ensuring sealing reliability and assembly accuracy. You’ll stay on top of global trends in motor architecture, lightweight materials, precision manufacturing and assembly processes, and you’ll lead early-stage studies on new motor structures and efficient assembly schemes. Your work will help convert technical innovations into practical product features and support the creation of core technology patents and barriers to competition.
You’ll also be responsible for building and refining the company’s motor mechanical technology framework. That means drafting development plans, improving technical documents like design manuals, fault case databases and test standards, and pushing for standardized engineering practices across the team. A big part of the job is developing people, training and mentoring engineers to raise the team’s overall capability in motor mechanical design, research and engineering execution, so the group operates as a capable, professional unit.
What you’ll need to bring
- A master’s degree or higher in a mechanical engineering-related field; a PhD or five-plus years at a leading OEM or a top-tier supplier would be a plus.
- Proven experience in developing products for mass production and a track record of electric motor development.
- Solid grounding in mechanical design principles for motors, including structural strength, vibration and noise control, sealing design and precise assembly; familiarity with lightweight materials such as aluminum alloys and composites.
- Hands-on knowledge of how core motor components are manufactured (machining, die casting, injection molding, welding) and an ability to design for manufacturability while keeping a lid on costs and boosting production efficiency.
- Familiarity with relevant automotive motor mechanics standards, experience in motor testing and verification, and the ability to plan tests, analyse results and drive closed-loop problem resolution; knowledge of DFMEA and PFMEA is a plus.
- A genuine passion for engineering, plus a collaborative mindset and comfort working across cultures; proficient in at least one mainstream 3D CAD tool and CAE software; proactive with a strong sense of internal and external client needs; good written and spoken English.
- Nice-to-haves include a track record of building and standardizing a motor mechanical technology system and experience training and developing a high-performing technical team, as well as a history of turning innovations into patentable products.
Practical details you should know
The role is full-time and onsite, located in Munich, Germany. The posting specifies Munich as the work location and onsite arrangements; other practical details such as salary, visa requirements or specific benefits are not disclosed in the listing.
Tips to position yourself for this role
Lead with your advanced degree and direct electric motor development experience. In your resume, put a concise summary at the top that calls out your work on motor components (stator, rotor, end covers, bearings) and any mass-production programs you’ve supported, especially with OEMs or Tier-1/2 suppliers.
Show how you’ve demonstrated core motor mechanics know-how. Include examples where you tackled vibration and noise challenges, refined structural strength, and ensured precise assembly and reliable sealing. If you’ve worked with lightweight materials, mention specific materials and the design choices you made to balance performance and manufacturability.
Demonstrate your testing and documentation skills. Describe how you develop test plans, analyse data, and drive problems to closure, ideally with DFMEA or PFMEA experience. Highlight any experience turning test findings into design improvements that saved time or reduced costs.
Prepare to discuss cross-cultural teamwork and your English communication, including how you’ve collaborated with colleagues across different regions and disciplines. Be ready to explain a recent project where you led a technical team through a design-for-manufacturing phase and how you mentored teammates to raise overall capability.
Ask a targeted question about the role’s impact on the company’s motor tech system. For example: how does the team balance standardized motor mechanical practices with opportunities to iterate designs for new structures or lightweight configurations, and what would your first six to twelve months look like in building that system here in Munich?
