Asda is looking for a Pharmacy Practice Manager to lead the store’s pharmacy team in Dagenham. This is a permanent, part-time in-store role with a hybrid work arrangement and a total of 38.5 hours each week. The position reports to the Area Manager and blends patient care with commercial responsibilities, aimed at delivering pharmacy targets while keeping patient safety front and center. The closing date for applications is 29 October 2026. The role sits in a retail healthcare environment where service quality and a positive customer experience matter as much as clinical governance.

You will be stepping into a role that combines hands-on pharmacy leadership with the everyday life of a retail pharmacy. The team you’ll guide includes the store Pharmacist and Pharmacy Colleagues, and you’ll have access to support from in-store, regional and head office colleagues whenever you need clinical or service guidance. A key part of the job is ensuring excellent patient experience and high standards of patient safety, while keeping the business aligned with defined targets and deadlines. The day-to-day rhythm includes coaching and developing your team, maintaining compliance with GPhC standards, and managing relationships with locums to sustain professional customer service and governance. The rota divides the weeks into two patterns, with weekend and weekday coverage, including Saturdays from 09:00 to 20:00 in Week 1, plus a mix of other days, and Week 2 featuring additional midweek and Friday coverage, all within a 38.5-hour week.

The right person will bring solid pharmacy credentials and a mindset focused on strong leadership and service. The role demands a fully qualified pharmacist registered with the GPhC, and you’ll need to be accredited to deliver NHS and private services locally and nationally. You’ll balance line management duties with hands-on pharmacy responsibilities, with a track record of motivating teams to hit key result areas and handle difficult situations with poise, keeping solid connections to store and field teams. In addition, you must possess a valid GPhC registration, evidence of the right to work in the UK, and safeguarding qualifications. DBS check and enrollment in the live update service are required, and you’ll need to show appropriate documentation to prove your qualifications and identity if selected.

A day in the life behind the counter

In this role, you’ll lead by example, guiding the pharmacy team to deliver a safe, attentive patient experience while meeting business goals. You’ll spend time coaching staff, developing direct reports and locums, and ensuring that every patient encounter is shaped by high professional standards and clear governance. You’ll act as a bridge between the store team and the broader support network, seeking expert advice from regional and home office colleagues when clinical or service questions arise. The daily rhythm is about steady leadership, proactive problem solving, and keeping everyone aligned on safety, service quality and efficiency.

What you must bring to the role

  • A current GPhC registration as a fully qualified pharmacist
  • Evidence of the right to work in the UK
  • Safeguarding qualifications appropriate for a pharmacy setting
  • Willingness to undergo a DBS check and join the live update service

Nice-to-have experience

  • Experience managing a pharmacy team and coordinating with locums
  • Proven ability to balance patient care with delivering defined business and service targets
  • Accreditation to provide NHS and private services and confidence in clinical governance
  • Strong communication skills to keep store, regional and head-office teams aligned

Pay, perks and practical details

The position offers a competitive salary plus benefits. The benefits package includes a discretionary company bonus, a company pension scheme with up to 7% matched contributions, and a 15% colleague discount in-store and online. You’ll also have access to wellbeing services such as Stream, a 24/7 virtual GP, counselling, health and dental cash plans, and a 24/7 employee assistance helpline, along with various other discounts. Your professional indemnity insurance is provided, and GPhC fees are paid by the employer. Asda supports inclusion through its Allies networks and offers extensive parental leave policies covering maternity and adoption leave, paternity leave, shared parental leave, neonatal care leave, and fertility treatment support. The role is part-time, on a permanent basis, with a hybrid working arrangement and a 38.5-hour week. The rota runs on two-week cycles: Week 1 includes Saturday 09:00–20:00, plus Monday through Wednesday 09:00–20:00; Week 2 covers Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 09:00–20:00. The role is located in Dagenham, ENG, and the shift pattern is days. Closing date for applications is 29 October 2026.

Advice for applicants

Put your GPhC registration and NHS/private service accreditation up front on your resume so the panel can see you meet the must-haves immediately.

When you describe your experience, give concrete examples of leading a pharmacy team and managing locums, showing how you’ve kept patient safety and service quality at the core while driving KRAs and target results.

Be ready to talk through governance, clinical standards and how you would balance patient care with business priorities. You’ll also want to explain your DBS and live update service status and how you stay compliant with safeguarding requirements.

Ask a precise, practical question at the end of the interview, for example: how does the store coordinate with regional and head office teams to support clinical queries and service expansions while maintaining high GPhC standards?

How to apply

If you’re ready to take on this role, submit an online application before 29 October 2026. Ensure your application highlights your GPhC registration, NHS and private service delivery experience, and your readiness to undergo the DBS and live update checks. Prepare to discuss how you’ll lead the pharmacy team to meet both patient care standards and store targets in a hybrid, part-time setup at Asda in Dagenham.
