The Ghobash Group is seeking a seasoned Project Manager for MEP projects, onsite in Abu Dhabi. The role centers on leading electrical and instrumentation EPC work for the oil and gas sector, with ADNOC among the main clients and opportunities across onshore and offshore installations. This is a hands-on position for someone who can own projects from start to finish and coordinate cross‑functional teams while upholding safety, quality and cost discipline.

With a track record in engineering delivery and a knack for balancing client needs with financial targets, the right person will steer complex programs, maintain strong relationships with clients and subcontractors, and mentor the project team to raise overall performance.

Steering MEP projects from kickoff to handover

The project manager will drive EPC initiatives through every phase, from initiation and planning to execution, commissioning and closeout. They will own the scope, schedule, cost, risk and quality, serving as the central point of accountability for project performance and client satisfaction. Leadership extends across a cross‑functional team while maintaining strict adherence to HSSE standards and the company’s financial objectives.

Key daily duties include forming the project team, defining how the work will be executed, and setting up the information system and communications for the project. The manager will guide the development of the project execution plan, including the scope of work, deliverables, master schedule, budget and risk register, and will steer the information management approach to reflect project life phases. They will monitor costs and progress, manage changes with the client under the change process, and keep the team focused on safety, schedule and budget while ensuring the right competencies are in place. Regularly, they’ll review financial data, report progress to senior management or the client, and ensure all project documentation and handover activities are properly prepared for final acceptance.

Interaction with clients is ongoing to resolve issues promptly, and at project completion the manager secures final approvals while sustaining relationships that support future business development.

What you must bring to the role

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and at least 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry
  • At least five years of experience in the UAE or the wider Middle East
  • A minimum of three years serving as a project manager on medium to large scale projects in a similar business
  • Leadership in health, safety and environment and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams

Tips to stand out for this role

Lead your resume with your mechanical engineering degree and your 15 years of oil and gas experience, then prove you’ve owned significant portions of multi‑phase projects and held P&L accountability. Highlight projects in the UAE or Middle East and any experience you have delivering electrical or instrumentation work within EPC contexts.

Show how you’ve demonstrated the must‑have capabilities: managing scope, schedule and budget, leading a cross‑functional team, enforcing HSSE standards, and delivering financial performance. Bring concrete examples of how you’ve controlled costs, forecasted cash flow, and navigated change management with clients and subcontractors.

Prepare for interviews by outlining a specific project story that covers initiation, planning, execution, risk mitigation and a successful closeout. Be ready to discuss your approach to risk management, client communications, and how you ensured quality while meeting deadlines in a brownfield or high‑stakes environment.

Ask a thoughtful question that ties to the role’s realities, such as how the team prioritizes HSSE during major EPC MEP projects in the region, which information management system is used for project documentation, or how they measure delivery excellence across similar programs.
