Regional Technology Director
News CorpNews Corp is looking for a seasoned technology executive to step into the Regional Technology Director role, based in Surry Hills, Sydney. The position sits within News Corp’s Global Technology services and is embedded in the News Corp Australia Business Unit. You’ll report to the SVP, Infrastructure & Enterprise Technology and operate in a hybrid setup, spending three or more days in the office each week.
In this capacity you’ll bridge local business priorities with global technology capabilities, translating business needs into technology outcomes and ensuring News Corp Australia can draw on GT services, platforms and expertise. You’ll be the principal technology interface between the BU and the broader GT service organization, shaping how global standards are applied locally while keeping a laser focus on value, security and performance.
The purpose is to enable faster, more disciplined delivery that aligns with GT strategy and operating models. Working across regional technology teams and GT functions, the RTD will exercise leadership and influence across strategy, delivery, transformation and service quality, always with an eye on business value and operational resilience.
A regional tech leader in practice
The role champions the pragmatic adoption of GT standards, architectures, platforms and tools so they fit the Australian business. You’ll build trusted relationships across business and technology leadership, ensure clear two-way communication between the BU and GT, and help shape the long-term technology roadmap in partnership with News Corp Australia’s senior tech leaders and GT function heads.
The RTD oversees regional infrastructure, data centres, networks, cloud, compute, storage and telephony, driving resilience, availability and performance. While there are no direct reports, there are matrix leadership responsibilities for regional team leaders, covering roughly 80–100 in-region GT staff. You’ll run the BU–GT alignment forum, bringing together disparate conversations into a single view of priorities, dependencies and opportunities and ensuring progress is visible and ownership is clear.
Crucially, success comes from operating effectively in a global, matrixed organization and ensuring GT capabilities evolve to meet changing business needs while staying anchored in service quality, stability, agility, security and business value.
Must-have requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field
- More than 15 years in IT management or technology leadership, ideally within complex global and matrixed organisations
- Extensive IT service management experience across the service catalogue and end-to-end technology delivery, including infrastructure, cloud, workplace, applications, cybersecurity, project and programme delivery, and operations
- A track record as a senior technology partner to the business, translating priorities into technology outcomes while navigating complex stakeholder environments
- A solid understanding of service delivery disciplines such as incident, problem, change and request management, service performance, escalation and continuous improvement
- Experience guiding technology transformation and delivery projects, with a knack for adopting new capabilities at scale
- Exposure to governance, risk and security work, with knowledge of enterprise architecture, standards and controls
- Experience managing technology budgets, vendors and commercial relationships with a focus on value and cost optimization
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to regional hubs, major data centres, office sites and vendor summits
