Take on the Revegetation Operator role on Mauao with Tauranga City Council, a full time onsite position focused on pest plant control, native planting, and safeguarding Mauao’s cultural and natural heritage. You’ll work with colleagues and local communities to conserve landscapes, plan on site works, and build strong relationships with Tangata Whenua while keeping the public safe and engaged. Successful candidates bring demonstrated environmental conservation or restoration experience, the ability to work outdoors in all weather, pest plant knowledge, and excellent communication and digital skills, together with a respect for Te Ao Māori. Te Tūranga | About the role

We are looking for a new team member to join us, this role will work primarily on Mauao, Moturiki, Hopukiore and surrounding areas. Mauao is our Maunga with rich cultural, archaeological and spiritual importance to our local communities, this role offers a unique opportunity to connect and care for this sacred Maunga/whenua.

Responsibilities may include:

• Pest Plant control of the landscapes, via various control practices (hand removal, mechanical, agrichemical and other)
• Collaborate with team members and local community groups to promote conservation efforts and cultural awareness
• Maintaining a safe and enjoyable natural asset for the public to access
• Planting and caring for native vegetation to restore natural habitats and preserve the cultural heritage and landscape of Mauao
• Planning and carrying our works on site to set timelines, specifications and safe working practices
• Establish and maintain relationships with local Tangata Whenua and assist where required

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

• Understanding of Te Ao Māori and appreciation of cultural heritage site protocols.
•  An appreciation and respect for the Maunga and the part it plays in our community.
• A strong interest in environmental conservation and sustainability.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Solid pest plant identification and control methodology.
• High physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour.
• Excellent communication skills, use of mobile devices and app usage.
• Previous experience in environmental conservation or restoration is required.
• Qualifications/training in Agrichemical use, small hands tools and mechanical tools a bonus.
