Senior Consultant - AML (Contract)
DeloitteDeloitte is hiring a Senior Consultant - AML on a temporary contract, with a hybrid work setup based in Toronto, Ontario. The reference code for the roll is 135501, and the work may include travel to the United States as part of a client-focused, technology-enabled AML program. Deloitte positions itself as the largest 100% Canadian-owned professional services firm, aiming to help clients strengthen financial-crime controls and support a more secure financial system.
This role suits someone who enjoys solving investigative puzzles, writing clear, well-supported findings, and working across a team to deliver actionable risk insights. You’ll be part of an AML program thatserves clients and requires a blend of hands-on analysis, documentation, and stakeholder communication, with travel to the U.S. as part of project work when needed.
If you’re drawn to rigorous analysis, strong collaboration, and flexible work arrangements, this could be a fit. Deloitte emphasises learning from subject-matter experts and staying current on evolving financial-crime trends while helping clients mature their AML programs.
A typical day in the AML program
Your day centers on applying established AML policies and regulatory expectations to customer activity. You’ll review transaction monitoring alerts and the related accounts to evaluate whether activity aligns with the known profile and the stated purpose, while performing necessary research on customer information. When required, you’ll conduct open-source investigations to support findings and assess historical alerts to decide on escalation, enhanced due diligence, account restrictions, or SAR/STR filing. You’ll craft clear case narratives that explain typologies, red flags, and the rationale for SAR/STR recommendations, and you’ll document investigative results and key metrics to support quality assurance and audit reviews. Throughout, you’ll escalate potential issues per the firm’s procedures and contribute to QA and process improvements, all while meeting productivity and quality targets and keeping current with regulatory developments and industry best practices. Team discussions and project meetings will also be part of the rhythm of the role, occasionally alongside client-facing or cross-border work that may require travel to the U.S.
You’ll apply knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, PCMLTFA, AML requirements, FinCEN and FINTRAC guidance, and industry practices to investigations and SAR/STR recommendations. The job also calls for sharing insights with clients to illuminate financial-crime exposure and to suggest enhancements to AML controls and processes. Keeping up with emerging trends and evolving guidance helps ensure investigations remain effective and aligned with regulatory expectations.
What it takes to excel in this role

- Experience conducting complex, network-based investigations and a solid understanding of banking products and financial-crime typologies
- Attention to detail, solid critical thinking, and the ability to stay accurate and productive in a high-volume setting
- Ability to interpret and apply established procedures and regulatory requirements, and to work well both independently and as part of a team
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fields such as business administration, social sciences, journalism, political science, sociology, commerce, finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, cybersecurity, or related disciplines
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain the work authorization required to perform services in the United States
- Experience conducting quality-control reviews of AML investigations and case work is considered an asset

The position carries a salary range of 84,000 to 126,000 CAD per year, with the possibility of a bonus program depending on performance. Deloitte’s total rewards package includes more than base pay and benefits: mental-health support benefits of 4,000 CAD per year, a 1,300 CAD flexible benefits spending account, Deloitte Days, dedicated Development and Innovation Days, and flexible work arrangements within a hybrid structure.
Advice for applicants
Lead your resume with AML investigations and transaction-monitoring experience, especially in retail, commercial, or wealth banking, and highlight any work you’ve done across two to five years in those areas.
Show how you translate complex findings into clear, evidence-based recommendations and SAR/STR narratives. Include concrete examples of case workflows, regulatory alignment, and any documentation you produced that supported governance or reporting requirements.
Be prepared to discuss how you operate in a high-volume environment, including how you maintain quality while meeting deadlines, and how you apply procedures and regulatory guidance in real cases. Have a few stories ready about network-based investigations and how you navigated evolving typologies.
Ask about cross-border collaboration and travel expectations, the balance between client-facing activities and internal QA, and opportunities to engage in Deloitte’s Development and Innovation Days or other growth programs that support your AML career trajectory.
