Senior Legal Counsel, Germany
XiaomiXiaomi is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to own the European Automotive Business Line from its Munich office. This is an on-site, full-time role that places you at the heart of Xiaomi’s European mobility initiatives, working in a highly international setting. If you enjoy cross-border collaboration and shaping legal support for a fast-growing automotive portfolio, this could be a great fit. Position ID A185161.
This is the first Europe-based position dedicated to Xiaomi’s Automotive Business Line, so the right candidate is a seasoned generalist with substantial in-house automotive experience, ideally at an OEM. The role could evolve into a leadership position, overseeing additional Legal Counsel across Europe as Xiaomi expands its European automotive footprint.
Based in Munich, you’ll join a team that supports Xiaomi’s automotive ambitions across Europe and collaborates with the HQ Legal Team. If you’re comfortable in a dynamic, international environment and want to influence how Xiaomi operates in Europe, you should consider this opportunity.
Guiding Xiaomi's European automotive legal work from Munich
In this role, you’ll deliver practical legal guidance to Xiaomi’s European Automotive Business Line, blending legal know-how with a pragmatic, business-minded approach. You’ll be involved in drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad spectrum of contracts across national and international contexts, and you’ll help shape internal guidelines, policies and templates to keep operations compliant and efficient. You’ll also review marketing materials and campaigns to ensure they meet applicable rules, and you’ll maintain active communication with regulatory authorities as needed. When disputes arise, you’ll coordinate with internal teams and external counsels to steer resolution, while providing ongoing support to finance, tax, sales and HR departments and maintaining a strong line of contact with the HQ Legal Team.
The day-to-day combines legal research with hands-on contract work and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll balance risk and business needs as you navigate regulatory expectations and corporate requirements, ensuring Xiaomi’s European activities stay aligned with both local and cross-border rules. This is a role that expects you to bring robust legal judgment to a fast-moving industry and to translate complex requirements into clear, actionable guidance for colleagues across functions.

- At least four years of in-house legal experience in the automotive sector
- Fluency in both German and English
- A strong commercial sense paired with a practical, outcomes-focused approach
- Ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines
There are no additional items listed as nice-to-haves beyond the must-haves.
Tips to help you stand out for this role
Put the German Bar qualification and Europe-focused in-house automotive experience at the very top of your resume. Highlight the fact that you’re comfortable working across German and English and that you’ve supported cross-functional teams such as finance, sales and HR in a multinational setting.
Show how you’ve proven the must-have skills by describing concrete projects. Include contracts you drafted and negotiated, especially those with multiple jurisdictions, any experience coordinating with regulatory authorities, and instances where you worked with external counsels and the HQ Legal Team to close a matter efficiently.
Be ready to discuss real examples of prioritising competing deadlines and balancing risk with business needs. You may be asked to walk through how you would approach a marketing material review for an automotive campaign or how you’d handle a cross-border dispute while coordinating with internal stakeholders.
Consider asking: Is there a plan to grow the European automotive legal team in the next year, and what would success look like in the first 12 months for this role? This ties directly to the potential leadership path mentioned in the description and shows you’re thinking about long-term impact.
