On-site
Sunshine Coast, AU

dormakaba is hiring a Service Technician to join the Sunshine Coast door and gate service team in Coolum, supporting customers across the region and beyond. The role is onsite and combines hands-on troubleshooting, servicing and installation work on a mix of commercial, residential and industrial door and gate systems, with opportunities to grow across a varied portfolio. dormakaba is a global leader in access solutions with more than 16,000 employees worldwide, focusing on safety, reliability and collaboration to help customers move securely and smoothly. This position will suit someone who likes practical problem solving, enjoys working across different sites and wants a clear path to develop their skills alongside experienced technicians.

On a typical day you’ll be out in the field, taking ownership of service and maintenance tasks, and applying your mechanical know-how to fix and install equipment such as roller and panel doors, sliding and swing gates, and boom gates. You’ll learn the trade through hands-on duties, including panel and motor replacements and basic receiver wiring, all within the training and authorisation you receive. The work also involves providing professional on-site customer support, recording accurate service reports with updates and photos, and keeping tools, parts and the vehicle stock in good order. The patch covers the Coolum service area from Gympie to Bribie Island, with occasional travel further afield, and after onboarding you’ll join the shared on-call roster.

Hands-on work across the Sunshine Coast

The role focuses on servicing, maintaining and troubleshooting a range of door and gate equipment across multiple sites, ensuring smooth operation for customers in commercial, residential and industrial settings. It also involves preventative maintenance, repairs and installations, including replacing panels and motors and handling basic wiring for receivers as you gain experience. On top of the technical work, there’s on-site customer interaction, the need to complete service reports and photos, and the responsibility for tools and stock across the job. Travel across the SEQ region is a natural part of the job, and the on-call roster becomes part of the routine after you’re fully onboarded.

What you must bring to the role

  • A mechanical mindset and confidence using hand and power tools
  • A current driver’s licence and the ability to obtain a police clearance
  • A customer-focused approach, clear communication and basic computer/CRM confidence
  • A strong safety mindset, including following site procedures and using PPE
  • Willingness to complete role- and site-specific training for varied work environments
  • Ability to work across the SEQ region and support an on-call roster for a week each month

Nice-to-haves that can give you a head start

  • Relevant experience from service, maintenance, building, electrical, manufacturing or a similar hands-on setting
  • White card
  • Basic electrical or electronics knowledge and fault-finding experience with motors, receivers or similar equipment
  • EWP, forklift or MR licences, working-at-heights training, or a Working with Children Check – highly regarded, and training may be supported for suitable applicants

Pay, benefits and practical details

The role comes with a company vehicle, mobile phone, tablet and the tools needed for the job. There’s practical onboarding and the chance to learn alongside experienced technicians, in a supportive team environment with varied work across commercial, residential and industrial applications. Career development paths exist, including potential opportunities in installation, sales or leadership. When travel is regional, accommodation and an away-from-home allowance are provided, and team members can earn peer recognition through dormakaba’s AAA nominations and awards. The company also offers access to discounted health insurance and WhereFit membership discounts.

Advice for applicants

Put your mechanical mindset and hands-on tool experience up front on your resume, and highlight that you hold a current driver’s licence and can complete the police clearance, since those are essential to the role.

When you describe your skills, show concrete examples of a customer-focused approach, clear communication and comfort with basic computer or CRM tasks, plus evidence of following safety procedures and wearing PPE on site.

Be ready to talk about your willingness to cover a service patch that runs from Gympie to Bribie Island, plus any experience you have with travel for work and joining on-call rosters, as these are recurring parts of the job.

Ask about career development opportunities beyond maintenance and repair, such as potential moves into installation, sales or leadership, and request details on how the on-call schedule is managed and what training is available for varied environments.
