Caen, FR

NXP Semiconductors is seeking a final-year student for a six-month internship with the NFC Software team based in Caen, France. This team handles the firmware and middleware that run NFC components found in many mobile devices and connected objects, enabling secure transactions, access control, and secure data exchange at a large scale. The work is on-site in Caen and centers on developing AI-powered validation tools for embedded software challenges.

The internship offers a hands-on chance to build AI-based tools for defect analysis and embedded validation, extend the test framework with plugins, and assess needs to propose practical technical solutions. There will also be opportunities to automate parts of the testing workflow and connect them to an automated testing platform such as Jenkins.

This opportunity is well suited to someone in the final year of an Engineering School or pursuing a Master 2, who is passionate about software development and eager to learn quickly in a real-world, international setting. It’s a chance to contribute to technology that touches many devices globally while gaining experience in AI-assisted validation for embedded systems.

Mornings in the NFC validation lab

Your daily work will revolve around crafting AI-driven tools to help identify defects and validate embedded software, then widening the capabilities of the existing test framework through plugins that leverage those tools. You’ll evaluate requirements, propose viable technical approaches, and help automate processes, including integration with a Jenkins-based automated test platform to streamline validation cycles.

Your profile essentials

Here’s what the role expects from you, and what would help you stand out.

  • Master’s degree level or the final year of an engineering program in computer science, industrial computing, or a closely related field
  • Hands-on work with artificial intelligence development, including OpenCode, LLMs, embedding models, and retrieval-augmented generation
  • Solid software development skills in Python and C, with knowledge of SQL databases
  • Strong command of English and the ability to operate in an international environment
  • A genuine passion for software development and the ability to grasp new technical topics quickly
  • Practical experience designing AI-based tools for defect analysis and embedded validation would be a plus
  • Familiarity with automating tests and integrating with a test framework via plugins, or with Jenkins for automated workflows

Advice for applicants

Lead with your most relevant achievement. On your resume, put your Master’s or final-year program up top, followed by a concrete project that shows you’ve built or worked with AI-powered tooling or embedded validation.

Show evidence of the must-have skills by detailing a project where you used Python or C to create a tool or application, and include any SQL work you did to handle data, plus a note about your English proficiency and any international-team collaboration you’ve experienced.

Prepare to discuss a real-world example during interviews: describe a plugin you’d design to extend a test framework or how you would integrate an AI-based validation tool with a Jenkins automation flow, including the data flow and the expected impact on test coverage.

Ask a targeted question about how the team structures plugin development for the test framework and how validation results are consumed in the workflow, for instance: what does the plugin API look like and how is Jenkins orchestrating validation runs in this NFC software context?
