NXP Semiconductors is inviting a final-year student to join its NFC Software team in Caen, France for a six-month internship. The core focus is using artificial intelligence to migrate the embedded software test tool from a C++ implementation to Python, while establishing automated ways to compare the two. The placement is on-site in Caen, and it’s an opportunity for someone who loves hands-on coding, embedded systems, and cross-language problem solving.

The NFC Software team at NXP develops firmware and middleware that power NFC components found in many mobile devices and connected objects, enabling secure communications for payments, access control and data exchange. These components scale worldwide, and the team builds internal validation tools to keep them robust. This internship is designed to contribute directly to those validation efforts.

Ideal candidates are in the final year of engineering school or pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or Industrial Computing. They should be passionate about software development, comfortable working in an international context, and eager to learn quickly as they tackle a multi-faceted migration project.

Migration by AI: turning C++ tests into Python

You’ll begin with a thorough look at the current validation tool, its requirements, and possible technical improvements. From there, you’ll design and implement AI-assisted steps to switch the tool from C++ to Python, then build automated checks to verify that the new Python version behaves the same as the original. Expect to collaborate with colleagues to refine the approach and ensure the migration remains aligned with project goals. The work will involve validating both implementations and demonstrating their equivalence through automated approaches.

Your foundation for this internship

  • Master’s degree or final-year status in an Engineering School, with a focus in Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or Industrial Computing

  • Background in software development that covers software and hardware architectures, and experience with C, Python, and C#, plus an understanding of validation methods

  • Solid English skills and the ability to operate effectively in an international environment

  • A genuine enthusiasm for software development and a talent for picking up new technical topics quickly

  • Experience with validating software and hardware integrations

  • Familiarity with AI techniques as they relate to tooling or migration projects

  • Exposure to embedded software environments or testing tools

Placement details in Caen

The assignment runs for six months and is conducted on-site in Caen, France, within the NFC Software team. The team focuses on delivering the software stack that supports NFC components used across a broad range of devices, enabling secure communications. The internship centers on applying AI methods to migrate a test tool from C++ to Python and on building automated validation to confirm equivalence between the two implementations.

Advice for applicants

Lead with the AI-driven migration project on your résumé, especially if you’ve worked on porting tools or validating cross-language implementations. If you have a concrete example of moving a tool from C++ to Python or integrating AI into testing, put that front and center.

Show the must-have skills with tangible evidence. Include a project or coursework where you used C, Python, and C# and describe the validation approach you used to verify correctness or equivalence between different implementations.

Be ready to discuss how you would analyze an existing solution and propose concrete improvements. Think through how you would structure an automated workflow to compare results from the C++ and Python versions, and be prepared to explain your validation strategy to a mixed technical audience.

Ask a smart question about how the team uses AI in the migration process and how the validation pipeline is integrated into the project workflow. For example, you could inquire about the criteria used to judge equivalence and how feedback is incorporated into iterative improvements.
