An onsite Systems Engineer opportunity in Abbotsford to support the Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communication System. You will work in an integrated product team applying systems engineering across the lifecycle, translating requirements, supporting verification and testing, managing technical risks and delivering robust solutions while contributing to documentation and continuous improvement. The role offers exposure to complex mission systems, collaboration across hardware and software, and travel with chances to mentor others. The ideal candidate has strong systems thinking, experience with lifecycle toolsets (IBM DOORS, Jira, Confluence, PLM/MRP), RF/HF or communications exposure, and a willingness to travel. You must be eligible for Commonwealth Personnel Security Clearance and prepared for pre-employment checks.
About the role
As a Systems Engineer at Babcock, you will support the design, integration, acceptance and sustainment of the Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communication System (EDHFCS) and related programs.
Working within an integrated product team, you will apply systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle, translating requirements, supporting verification and testing, managing technical risks, and delivering robust engineering solutions.
You will operate with a high level of accountability, contributing to system design decisions, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The role offers exposure to complex mission systems, collaboration across hardware and software disciplines, and opportunities to mentor others while developing your own technical capability.
Some intrastate, interstate and occasional overseas travel is required.

You are a motivated engineer with strong systems thinking and a practical approach to problem solving.
Comfortable working across the engineering lifecycle, you can analyse requirements, support integration and test activities, and produce clear technical documentation while meeting time, cost and quality expectations.
You communicate effectively, work well in multidisciplinary teams, and value knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
A strong commitment to safety, engineering standards and professional development underpins your work, along with a willingness to travel and engage with customers when required.
