Systems Integration & Test Engineer
AversanAversan Inc. is actively seeking a Systems Integration & Test Engineer to join its focused engineering team. The company is a trusted multi-service engineering and electronics manufacturer delivering safety‑critical systems for aerospace, defence and space programs. This full‑time role offers a hybrid work setup in Toronto, with the chance to contribute to IVVQ, Integration, Verification, Validation and Qualification, activities from planning through reporting. It’s a good fit for someone who enjoys hands‑on testing, cross‑disciplinary collaboration, and shaping test scripts when needed to keep the system aligned with requirements.
The position blends lab work with field and shipboard testing, and it involves documenting results, tracking defects, and interfacing with stakeholders to ensure traceability from requirements to test outcomes. The successful candidate will have the technical acumen to amend standard test scripts as required to preserve system integrity, while leveraging established processes to deliver reliable test reports and trials.
Ideal for engineers who are comfortable with occasional travel to ships, shipyards or remote test sites and who want a role where they can influence development through robust IVVQ activities, this opportunity places you at the center of critical systems work in the Toronto area.
Putting integration and testing into practice
On a day‑to‑day basis you’ll plan and run test events, collaborating with the Interview/Test Team to safely verify and validate products. You’ll review requirements and help shape traceability matrices, while recording test results and performing defect analysis. You’ll raise problem reports and drive them through resolution, and you’ll deliver test reports, reliability data, CGP or trial materials as part of the formal deliverables. You’ll deploy the testing framework, including metrics and the right tools, and you’ll contribute to test plans and procedures while keeping a tight eye on how the requirements feed into the test activities.
What you’ll need to bring to this role
- A bachelor’s degree in systems, software, electrical or computer engineering, or an equivalent credential
- At least three years of hands‑on work with physical systems, including mechanical, electrical or pressurized fluid components
- Minimum of three years’ IV&V or closely related experience
- Experience in marine or military settings, including ships or shipbuilding contexts
- Background in marine systems and system‑of‑systems integration
- Solid knowledge of core networks and applications
- Proven ability to develop and execute test cases, whether manual or automated, plus experience with requirements analysis
- Familiarity with test management software
- Experience handling physical systems, products or equipment in testing environments
- Hands‑on testing or verification work on ships
- Experience with IBM DOORS for requirements management
- Willingness to visit ships and work in testing environments that may be difficult to access, such as shipyards or remote sites
- Fluent English communications, both written and spoken
- Ability to lift light loads of test or electronic gear as needed in labs or field settings
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain Canadian Secret, Controlled Goods, ITAR, NATO Secret and COMSEC clearances
Nice‑to‑haves that would help you stand out
- Additional professional certifications in systems engineering or project management
- Experience with expanded test automation or scripting beyond manual testing
- More extensive exposure to safety‑critical software life cycles or standards
- Broad use of multiple test management or requirements tools beyond IBM DOORS

Tips to stand out for this role
Lead your resume with IVVQ and test execution experience, then highlight your work with physical systems and any marine or shipboard testing you’ve done. If you have test plans and procedures you’ve written, showcase them with outcomes and any traceability you created between requirements and tests.
Show concrete evidence of your test management tool skills and how you’ve built or used traceability matrices. If you’ve used IBM DOORS, call out specific modules or workflows you’ve managed and the kinds of requirements you’ve linked to tests or verifications.
Be ready to discuss your ship testing experiences, including any field sites or shipyard environments you’ve worked in, as well as how you handled defect analysis and reporting in those settings. Talk about how you’ve navigated safety and compliance concerns in multi‑domain systems.
Prepare to address clearance topics and your plan for obtaining or maintaining required authorizations. A thoughtful question to ask could be how the team coordinates IVVQ across multi‑system projects and how test results feed into the CGP or Trial deliverables.
