Aversan Inc. is looking for a Systems Verification & Validation Engineer to join its specialized team. The company designs and manufactures safety‑critical electronics and software for aerospace, defence, and space sectors, bringing hands‑on engineering experience to complex projects. The role focuses on IVVQ work, integration, verification, validation, and qualification, with standard test scripts you may need to adapt to keep systems aligned with requirements. This full‑time position sits in Toronto, Canada, with a hybrid work setup, and is ideal for someone who thrives on rigorous testing and clear, fact‑based reporting.

Based in a city known for its engineering talent, the position offers a chance to contribute to critical hardware and software efforts while collaborating with a team that values precise verification and traceability. The job suits someone who enjoys digging into requirements, shaping test strategies, and communicating results to engineers and stakeholders in a clear, actionable way. If you’ve got hands‑on experience with physical systems and a track record of IV&V in safety‑critical contexts, you’ll likely feel at home here.

The candidate profile leans toward someone who can handle the demands of marine and defense environments, understand system‑of‑systems integration, and operate with strong English communication skills. The role may involve ship visits and work at challenging test sites, including shipyards or remote locations, as well as the potential to engage with security clearance processes as part of the job. If this mix sounds like you, read on to see the day‑to‑day and the requirements below.

IVVQ in action on the project floor and beyond

Your day begins with planning and executing test events, coordinating with the Interview/Test Team to verify and validate products in ways that keep safety and reliability front and center. You’ll also review requirements and help shape traceability matrices to track how each need is covered by tests, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks. When tests run, you’ll record results and perform defect analysis, then raise problem reports and monitor their resolution until closure.

As part of the reporting habit, you’ll deliver test documentation such as Test Reports, reliability data, CGP, or Trial results, and you’ll deploy the methodologies and tools necessary to run activities efficiently. You’ll write and maintain test plans and procedures, and your strength in requirements analysis will guide how tests map back to stakeholder needs. Proficiency with test management tools will help you stay organized as you support the team through the full IVVQ lifecycle, from planning through execution and review.

Expect to work across a range of physical systems and equipment, including the possibility of testing on ships or in shipboard contexts. The role emphasizes strong documentation, clear communication, and the ability to adapt test scripts as needed to maintain system integrity. You’ll need to be comfortable with the required level of detail and with providing formal test deliverables that stakeholders can rely on for certification and qualification decisions.

Must-have qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems, software, electrical, or computer engineering (or an equivalent credential)
  • At least three years of hands‑on experience with physical systems, including mechanical, electrical, or pressurized fluid components
  • A minimum of three years in IV&V or related verification activities
  • Background in marine or military systems, including ships or shipbuilding
  • Marine systems experience and a proven track record with system‑of‑systems integration
  • Solid core network and applications experience
  • Experience developing and executing test cases, whether manual or automated, plus requirements analysis
  • Familiarity with test management tools
  • Hands‑on experience with physical systems, products, or equipment
  • Experience testing or verifying ships and related environments
  • Experience using IBM DOORS
  • The role may involve ship visits and work at difficult‑to‑navigate test sites such as shipyards, construction sites, or remote locations
  • Fluent English, in writing and speaking, with strong communication skills
  • Ability to perform minimal lifting of test and electronic equipment in lab or field settings
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Canadian Secret, Controlled Goods, ITAR, NATO Secret, and COMSEC security clearances

Nice-to-haves to consider

Experience in safety‑critical domains beyond ships, such as aerospace or defense, and familiarity with additional requirements management tools beyond IBM DOORS could help your application stand out.

Next steps to join the team

Tip: highlight in your resume your three years of IV&V work and your hands‑on experience with physical systems, plus any shipboard testing. If you use IBM DOORS, show concrete examples of how you managed requirements and how you linked those requirements to test activities and results.

Tip: prepare a concise story about a time you wrote a test plan or procedure and how you adapted it in response to a defect or a changing requirement. Be ready to discuss traceability matrices you built and how you ensured full coverage across a system‑of‑systems environment.

Tip: in interviews, expect to discuss how you would handle testing in shipyard or remote environments, including safety considerations, risk assessment, and how you communicate findings to engineers and project leaders. Have a thoughtful question ready about how the team integrates IVVQ across multiple subsystems on marine platforms.

Tip: if you’re curious about the kinds of challenges the team faces, ask about the most difficult shipboard test you’ve supported and how the team balances schedule pressure with rigorous verification and safety requirements.
