Mountain Warehouse is looking for a hands-on Team Leader/3IC to join its on-site team in Rouse Hill, Australia. This permanent, part-time role sits within the Australia Retail department, and it’s a great fit for someone who enjoys guiding a team, delivering solid customer service, and keeping a busy shop floor running smoothly. If you thrive in a retail setting where merchandising and daily operations matter as much as sales, you’ll likely feel at home here.

The position is a permanent, part-time role based on site at Rouse Hill (RHI), with a pay rate of AU$28.89 per hour. It’s ideal for someone who wants a clear leadership path in a retail environment and is ready to influence both people and processes to create a welcoming shopping experience for customers.

In this job, you’ll be closely involved in shaping how the store performs day to day and how customers feel when they visit. If you’re the kind of leader who can energise a team, model excellent service, and help the store hit its targets, you’ll find plenty to sink your teeth into.

Leading the store floor at Mountain Warehouse

You’ll guide and support your colleagues, contributing to team discussions and problem-solving while helping to train both new and existing team members. Your leadership will help create an inclusive, cooperative atmosphere where everyone can contribute to meeting goals.

Operationally, you’ll back the team in handling the daily running of the store, ensuring policy compliance, processing transactions across different payment methods efficiently, and keeping the sales floor clean, well organised, and visually appealing. You’ll stay in the loop on product features, promotions and pricing so you can offer customers accurate advice, and you’ll help set up and run in-store promotions and displays to drive sales and improve the shopping experience.

On the customer side, you’ll build meaningful connections with shoppers, understand what they’re looking for, and provide solutions tailored to their needs. You’ll handle inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally while representing Mountain Warehouse with enthusiasm and a welcoming vibe. Alongside the team, you’ll work to meet and exceed sales targets and identify opportunities for growth.

Must-have requirements

  • Strong commitment to delivering outstanding customer service
  • A genuine passion for retail and the energy to share that enthusiasm
  • Excellent communication skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor
  • High level of energy, drive, and the ability to complete tasks effectively
  • Reliable and trustworthy as a team player

Nice-to-haves

The posting doesn’t list additional nice-to-haves beyond the core qualities above. If you recognise yourself in the must-haves, you’re invited to apply.

Pay, benefits and practical details

The role is a permanent, part-time position based on site in Rouse Hill (RHI). The advertised pay is AU$28.89 per hour.

  • Monthly Bonus Scheme: a performance-driven bonus structure that sits atop base pay and targets achievable results
  • 50% colleague discount across Mountain Warehouse and Animal, with a twice-yearly uniform allowance
  • Generous colleague referral incentive
  • A stable, supported work environment
  • Length of service awards

Tips for applicants

Put your best retail leadership moments up front on your resume. Lead with examples where you guided a team to hit or exceed targets, delivered standout customer service, and helped implement promotions or visual merchandising that moved products off the floor.

When you prove you’ve got the must-have skills, share concrete outcomes. For instance, note times when you trained new staff, improved a process, or helped customers find tailored solutions while handling transactions smoothly across multiple payment methods.

In interviews, be ready to talk through how you’ve collaborated with teammates to solve problems, kept knowledge current on products and pricing, and supported in-store promotions from planning to execution. Demonstrate how you stay proactive on floor layout and customer engagement.

Ask a focused question that shows you’re thinking about impact. For example: how is the monthly bonus determined and what sales or service targets influence it, and what would success look like for me in my first 60 days in this role?
